Goodbye, Minmus.

Recommended Posts

If minmus IS in fact a comet nucleus, it will be unstable.

It's orbit is already unstable, in fact. So, we could:

1. Remove minmus from the game / take it to some other planet.

2. Give it extreme inclination. So new players will go through the hard part with the mun, and have a LOT easier experience with other bodies.

3. Make it darker, and make it a comet...orbiting the sun.

I for one don't like the unrealistic experience of new players landing on Minmus instead of the mun. It would be like Apollo 11 landing on a near-earth protoplanet, which is extremely, EXTREMELY unlikely.

Why do you even care what experience new players have or not? Play how you like but don't force on somebody else your philosophy.

If new players like to land on minimus first instead of the mun it is solely their choice. It is still open to you to land on the mun first and do the "realisic" stuff.

I completely agree with you. New players should be forced into a certain progression that closely matches Earth history; it only makes sense.

Minmus is awesome. The Mun is a place were sort of familiar with, with Earth's moon, and science fiction, and all that, but Minmus is the first step into strange, new places. If there was a Minmus-like object orbiting earth, then there would have been a reasonable chance we'd have gone there soon after the Moon (life support issues- longer trip). It's up to each player to plan their own space program's schedule.

Plus, it has enough inclination to introduce players to the concept, and is great for practicing transfers.

I'm against the OP and regex on this one, simply because I landed on Minmus first myself. Why? It's just like many forumgoers advise newbz on: Minmus is easier to land on and return from than the Mun is. I did Minmus first because I had rockets (mostly) figured out, but I wanted every advantage when it came to landings, and so that's what I did. I'm perfectly happy with the system we have now.

More or less.

Were life support not a factor, NASA would've done the same thing. Minmus is both cheaper and safer.

I agree the proposed changes to Minmus would be a bad idea.

I'm 98% sure regex was being facetious, though.

minus was my first landing no cheats

1) lower gravity made it easier for actual landing

2)plane tilt had to be learnt

3)less delta v was needed

I'm still trying to land on the mun with no cheats ...........well its the getting back part I'm struggling with actual

take away minus i would have probably dropped the game by now

Minmus has been with us for so long it would feel wrong moving it. Although I disagree about moving it, for the sake of scientific plausability, let's say it is moved. We definitely would need something in its place as having two moons makes for great practice for interplanetary manouvers. Given that Minmus is already there and fulfilling that role, it should stay.

I think that Minmus should stay, but it could use some art pass and make it look more moon-like. From other hand it shouldn't look like mini version of Mun, so it's topography should be much different from a Mun.

I partially disagree, I love the strangeness, weirdness and beauty it has on the surface. But how it looks from orbit really needs a tidy up.

I wonder about adding a few more delicate shades of mint green and cyan to the mix? Striations on the slopes, perhaps?

Possibly. I think an art pass would be really nice for Minmus. Although I think that other places could use the art pass before touching Minmus up.

Back in my day we didn't even have a Mun to land on! Take it away, I say! New players have it too easy having a tangible object to aim towards!

In my day, we didn't have a place to go.

And it took ages to get there.

And we had to walk there.

In the snow.

In my day we loaded games with tapes, it took ages and when there was an loading error you had to rewind and start again.

Nowaday kids are really spoiled, there is no patience anymore.

Going back to the original topic....

Minmus is the sum total of Kerbins entire mint ice cream output, all the ice cream was shot into space by the Kerbal ice cream mafia to artificially inflate ice cream prices.

No longer can you get a minty 99 with a flake or a cheap mint choc-ice, no!, if you want that delicious minty treat you'll have to pay!

All that ice cream had to go somewhere, and it's nice and cold in space right? so guess were it ended up, there's a reason why Kerbals on Minmus aren't allowed to open their helmets...

LOL Wait you're serious?

There is no point. Your only argument seems to be for REALISM! (an argument which I really hate, no matter what the idea is)

Whats wrong with realism? He isn't asking for realism, he is asking for the games solar system to be modeled after our one. Thats something entirely different.

For the reason of realism, he was asking for the Minmus to be moved for realistic reasons. The problem with changing something for purely realistic reasons is that it has no considerations for gameplay, which is the most important consideration.

You...

You're joking right? In a game about little green men in an undersized universe, you want their exploration of their solar system to be exactly the same as ours? If that's the case, you might as well only play orbiter, and only recreate real missions with it. Seriously, that's like the exact opposite of the point of this game.
