KSP 64bits on Windows (this time, it's not a request)

The screen that flashes during scene transitions looks sort of like some mission control. Perhaps SQUAD wanted us to find this out and left a little bit of taste of things to come as an easter egg for us to find?

My extra screen is of the Astronaut complex. Could you take a screengrab of yours? I'd love to see the image. Or go into the astronaut complex and see if it's the picture you're seeing.

This 64 bit workaround works for me quite well. Sometimes I have errors loading pre-made space craft on the launchpad, but I have no issues loading them in the VAB and then launching them. I have added FASA, NovaPunch, and LLL and am using over 4GB of RAM, so I would say it's relatively stable.

Works well so far for me. The only issues I've seen that haven't been mentioned is that on one flight the revert buttons didn't work at all (click the button and nothing happens) for launchpad and VAB. I also found that the game hangs when using alt-tab (game disappears from list of running programs but still has a taskbar icon and process attaching using lots of ram) so I had to kill it with task manager. I'm using DX11 and a big list of mods (Renaissance pack for EVE, lots of parts, no texture reduction at all).

Amendment to my previous post:

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Despite having installed and run this 64-bit thing in a completely separate folder, it was running using the saves from my original KSP installation, and when I deleted the Career save in the 64-bit folder, my original Career save went away. This hack is NOT made safe by installing KSP somewhere else! Everyone should make backups of their saves before trying it.

P.S.: Oddly enough the Career save still existed in the 64-bit folder. This doesn't make the bug any less severe, but at least I can save my Career. Whew. Almost died right there. ^^;

Here's a quick list of what seems to be working/not working for me, in the hopes of helping people tell at a glance what will work for this.

(Working - Not Working (Effect/Reason))

Kerbal Alarm Clock

Novapunch

SCANsat

LTech Orbital Science

Dmagic Orbital Science

Rover Science

KSP Interstellar

Kerbal Joint Reinforcement

Mechjeb

KW Rocketry

Hot Rockets (For some reason, upon install all rocket effects/exhaust are invisible)

RCS Sounds

Chatterer

Kerbal Attachment System

Yeah, I just realised my mistake a few minutes ago. I just don't go to the Astronaut complex terribly often so I don't remember what it looks like. And I was getting excited already...

As for the game issues, still none so far besides one weird thing - when I have Chrome open at the same time as the game, I sometimes can't switch to other tabs.

I get that too. Try right-clicking anywhere, then it should work.

Hot rockets works without problems for me.

Apart from that I can say the following work fine:

-Environmental Visual Enhancements

-Better Athmospheres

-distant object enhancement

-B9 Aerospace

-Cool Rockets

-Texture Replacer

-Kerbal Engineer redux

-procedualr fairings

Xrayfish,

You wouldn't happen to have a list of those mods you could cut and paste. That would be handy for setting up and testing our 64-bit installs.

It seems to be working! With a ton of mods (tried up to 5GB RAM), just some minor hiccups here and there, but nothing critical yet. I guess it's just one of those things which seem trivial after someone already thought about and tried them.

Now, HD everything? :D

RowsDower if we cant get a working 64bit executable could we at least ask the devs to compile for DX11 and get moved of DX9 there is a substantial memory saving to be had by moving to the later DX9 is a memory pig.

The best I can do is pass on the request.

EDIT: I just took another look at the poll. For those of you who said that there were crashes and the game was unplayable, was it because of any incompatibility with the mods you ran? Do you believe there are any other issues that could have caused it?

Xrayfish,

As I said, I'm currently in progress of removing the mod causing error spam in Debug (which also happened in 32bit). I am finally making progress, with only 10 mods left to reinstall and check for issues. I will most likely finish today. Then I will start looking for issues caused by the 64bit version.

After that I will put together a list of working mods.

One thing I can say right now, that I don't know if people have mentioned before: When installing mods one by one, it might happen that one of the mods happens to make the game crash on loading. Instead of deciding that this mod doesn't work, install another mod and try again. If it still crashes, install yet another mod. If it still crashes, only then can you say that one mod truly isn't working in 64bit.

I've gotten up to 8GB of ram used, but keeps crashing either while loading or while loading the VAB when using Directx9. When I forced the game to opengl, memory usage went down and the game seemed to run, but FPS was really bad - ~20fps or so in VAB, vs 60fps under DX. I'm using two R9 290X in Crossfire, 16GB of RAM and i7 4930k.

I think I'm on my 15th or so crash from "access violation error" of either KSP.exe or mono.dll

how on earth can I stop this?! is anybody else getting it??

I so want that floor in my SPH.

That's exactly how my SPH normally looks. :sticktongue:

PS: I'm on a 32-bit machine (and thus am not part of the 64-bit parade).

Force it to use DX11 and see how you go, you probably get the same errors as Post #226

how do I do this? I'm willing to try anything at this point

Works fine with most of my mods, except Kethane when in DirectX 11 mode: The Kethane grid rapidly expands off of the planet. On a possibly unrelated note all the planets and moons wobble around when rotating map view. Other than those bugs it appears KAS, Lazor, Interstellar, and at least part of Extraplanetary Launchpads is working :D

it just says to add an argument to the shortcut, I don't know what that means

edit: do I just put after target "-force-d3d11"?

Yes, but outside of the quotation marks. something like this in your target field "C:\KSP\KSP.exe" -force-d3d11
