Quick question: All stock or mod use allowed? I know several mods that would do a lot of aesthetics, are they fair game or no?

I will assume stock for now, just wanted some final word on that point.

I think we have an EXCELLENT chance of beating the pants off Reddit.

You want this, don't you? The hate is swelling in you now. Give in to your anger. With each passing moment you make yourself more my servant.

Just kidding. But seriously, not really. Reddit is going to put up an embarrassingly good show. :)

Does anyone else feel like this challenge is lacking in some details though? Like:

* All mods? Because Hyperedit is technically a mod.

* In orbit or just in space?

* SSTO, or drop tanks/boosters allowed?

* Single launch or in-orbit assembly?

You're right it seems to be lacking in some things from the guidelines themselves.

if the first few posts are asking for details, you have done something wrong.
Every challenge needs a way to win it or to judge if someone is the best, usually this is the shortest time to complete the challenge or the least components used, or even the lowest mass or least fuel consumed.

*Straightens suit and walks to podium*

Fellow kerbalers, you have been selected as the first fruits of this epic challenge, a challenge who's first winners will be remembered. You all have been selected partially because of your skill, but also because you show spirit! Each of you has my sincere respect, and my heartfelt honor. You may not have been famous before, but you are now. Go at it boys.

Anyways

Just curious, why was I picked? I'm prolific, but by no means famous.

I think the teams where selected as the ones that first PM'd Rowsdower, but I'm not sure. Can someone confirm or correct me?

Mods are allowed? Wouldn't it be more fair to have a level playing field with stock parts only?

Yeah, but I think everyone has IR, and that makes the game soo much better. And everyone has access to all the mods, so I think it's still a fair playing field. I understand that not everyones computer can handle mods like b9 though.

The only thing I really don't want to compete against is hyperedit. That makes it super unfair. But with the submissions being a picture, there's not even a way to prove someone used it, or if someone used the debug menu either.

Also I want this at the top of the page, cause it got me hella psyched to be in this.

Historically "official" competitions on these forums have been fun but poorly organised in terms of rules, enforcement, awards, etc, probably because the Squad team doesn't really have the time to invest in running them "properly". So I think it makes sense that there seems to have been an attempt to turn much of this over to the community itself... although I agree that as far as specific rules go, it really does have to come from the challenge organisers.

I also want to know the answers to these.

Excellent questions that I would like clarification on as well.

Same here because we are going all out on building. If Hyperedit can be used it would save us doing a Danny!!

Make a craft - any craft - but it has to look like a trophy and it has to successfully make it into space.
Emphasis mine. "Make it into space" would count out hyperedit along with on-orbit construction a la extraplanetary launchpads. (And claiming your trophy will make it into space if launched from Gilly is Playing Silly Buggers and can be expected to be disallowed.) Whether it counts out in-orbit assembly from parts properly launched is debatable.

*looks at list*

*scratches chin*

I thought you were a shoe-in for sure.

Anyway, rules need some major clarification. If mods are allowed, someone could conceivably model a giant golden Jeb trophy with rockets in his feet and SSTO capability.

I wanted this particular challenge to be somewhat subjective and open, but if you have some suggestions on criteria, I'm all ears.

*Mods are fine.

*Just in space. Orbit is fine, too.

*Yes. It just needs to look like a trophy.

*Doesn't matter.

Are we able to land it on plannets without an atmosphere and also can we just Hyperedit it to a plannet for example Eve or somewhere?
