Lol, that is a really cool gif! Nice job. :)

That one Reddit submission of orbits--does it even count? Rules say "Make a craft - any craft". Last I checked an orbit is not a craft. Or are we cutting them slack because we expect a certain amount of illiteracy from Reddit?

That one made me wonder that same thing...

I think it should count, because they did get a craft. The rule didn't specify that we couldn't show interesting orbits around that craft. Plus, it's original.

I'm pretty sure they asked Rowsdower, I would if I were in that team.., and it's a cup img after all..., I would allow it, but be more specific in the upcoming rules (even if that means, stating that you can be creative)

Here are my opinions. I know you don't want to hear them, but here they are.

Entry 1: Excellent blend between a rocket and a trophy. Very stylish. Looks like a low part count compared to other entries... not sure whether that's a good thing. Having a Kerbal on top is very slightly weird, but I'll roll with it. Is that another rocket in the background, by the Kerbal?! Photo isn't bad, but a little generic.

Entry 2: Trophy, all the way. Looks like it's all stock, which earns it points for me. Absolutely enormous... wow. Good use of lighting, but the struts connecting all of the soccer balls aren't too great. Another good but generic shot from orbit.

Entry 3: Can you call a palace a trophy? Looks like it's all stock, so that's nice. The lettering on the sides is clever but a little hard to read, and the two rockets bolted to the side are great. The photo features a Kerbin eclipse, which is cool. Still, though, I'm unsure of whether this thing can properly be considered a trophy.

Entry 4: Gorgeous trophy (not many stock parts, but still really cool!) It's slightly medieval, which isn't the way I would have taken it. Soccer balls in the center are cool, and Jeb's really happy about his handiwork. The photo has a tiny sliver of Kerbin, which is very nice.

So, these are my opinions. I'm not entirely sure whose entry is whose, and I don't want to offend anyone. :)

I do want to hear! More opinions please people, I bet other teams feel the same.

I so want to reply about your assessment of ours but argghNotAloweddnjdobjnfvlmsnwjoa sbnjfv mcx,.......

Yeah, I really didn't expect composite images (no freaking way anybody, ever, managed such an arrangement of orbits, even if it was possible in the first place which it isn't). Technically speaking, they would not be composed of just one image, and between there and drawing the whole picture... I thought it had to be a straight F2 screenie. But since I assume it's allowed, well, very, very nice lateral thinking for reddit. Lots of creativity there!

Rune. Voting was much harder than I expected.

Roger that then!

Forum entries:

1) Definitely the trophiest trophy, would look great on my shelf. I rather like how the kerbal has his own teeny weeny trophy as well, a splash of humour ftw.

2) I actually voted for this, because it looks all stock (and if you can build cool looking stuff with the limited geometry available, that's huge in my book) and it looks like a legit launch (spotted RCS at the bottom... a hyperedited ship wouild not require it). I didn't mind the struts too much, it sort of looked like goal netting to me.

3) Clearly huge, great colours, and I like the "inscription". Background is a little plain.

4) Looks like mod parts were specifically made to construct the trophy. Parts modelling obviously takes some patience and talent, but I'm more impressed by in-VAB construction where your freedoms are much more limited. Nice background though.

Reddit entries:

1) Reminds me of invader zim. This is a good thing.

2) If something like this had been done without hyperedit and looked as good, I would probably have voted for it. But obviously this was hyperedited. I'm sure it still took a long time to do, but it's not demonstrating KSP skill, it's demonstrating data entry skill.

3) Great picture, obviously enormous use of hyperedit. Would be a cool desktop bacground, but in my book not very KSP and not very trophylike (sure, I see the trophy in the creature's right hand).

4) REMEMBER ME. Voted for this, my favourite of all 8. Poor kraken.

I believe you can´t vote twice from the same IP adress, and is my sincere belief that anybody who submited their work for this challenge will adhere to said honor code. Nobody wants to be called a cheater.

On a different note: why not a forum poll? Is my understanding that you can tweak the poll to not show results until a deadline is met and things like that. It was done like this for the Reddit crowd?

A forum poll would seem to be much more secure, since any given registered member would only be able to vote once *and* I think you need at least 5 posts to create new threads, and maybe vote in polls too? Or at least it could be done that way. Reddit is inherently uncontrolled, so reddit users who want to vote would have had to be forum users as well. In short, maybe the "forum vs reddit" idea wasn't really thought through to the point of "wait, how do we make sure votes are legit?".

Multiple voting on that external link is definitely possible, since you can vote without logging in. Most browsers these days make it ridiculously easy to do as well, although I won't directly say how in this thread.

Reddit is also inhabited by a number of SA forum goons, so the idea that the goon squad *wouldn't* know whose submissions are whose, or wouldn't use their overwhelming numbers to decide a winner, is a bit naive.

Funny how all four forum teams took the challenge quite literal and all made football trophies. On Reddit, on the other hand, only one team made a football trophy, and the other three made something else entirely.

Unfortunately some of that lateral thinking went a bit too lateral. Reddit 3 and 4 definitiely are not what I'd consider a "trophy" at all. Reddit 2 can qualify if you consider something 2D like an artsy engraved plate to be a trophy. Works for me, in any case. They get my vote.

On the forum side, the decision is much harder. I don't really like team 3, but not because the build is bad - I don't like it because I think the photo is bad. It's too dark. It doesn't look glorious at all, it looks more brooding and ominous. Nice idea with the eclipse but I don't think it works for this subject matter. Team 2 is a great trophy, but went a wee bit overboard on the psychedelic balls. Team 1 is also a great trophy, albeit almost too slick and streamlined to be Kerbal. Team 4 had me blink and doubletake, trying to figure out what the heck that thing is built from. In a competition as close as this one, I think I will let that effect play the tiebreaker and award them my vote.

In case anyone is wondering, those are very cleverly built procedural wings in the fourth forum entry. I also had to look twice!

I don't see anything impossible in the image, but maybe I'm not looking closely enough. Hyperedit is expressly permitted in the challenge, so it is definitely possible to get a very symmetric set of orbits. I suspect it was direct save editing rather than Hyperedit, though, given the untracked asteroids are symmetrical, too.

Eidt: On closer inspection, some of the orbit-less objects have ship icons, I'm not sure that's possible.

Untracked objects are able to be altered by hyperedit, or at least, they appear in the list of things you can alter.

Just look at really, really big kerbin, and Minmus orbiting Mun which isn't orbiting really, but static in the sky, yet has a smaller Mun orbiting it. Either they got really creative with hyperedit indeed (can you even move planets with that?), or that's a composite. But the "creature" picture settles it, no freaking way you can get such a planet arrangement in the sky.

Rune. Then again, it's reddit, they are kinda supposed to bend the rules right?
