Edit: Wait a minute. The balls have 1000 m/s impact tolerance, right? I'm not sure how much energy is conserved in the collision, but that's enough to bounce from a collision course encounter trajectory back into an escape trajectory on some of the moons. The *ultimate* gravity assist.

I must try this :D

Nah, that's the first thing I tried when the mod came out... Even hitting the Mun at only 500 m/s destroyed the ball.

Team Jedi has locked in its submission. That has got to be the single most stressful thing I've ever done in KSP. Yes, worse than the video challenge.

sliding in under the buzzer, very nice. cant wait to see all the submissions. its gonna be crazy

... and finally a challenge for the navigators out there to break their slide rules and teach us some orbital mechanics.

What makes you think that the navigators aren't stepping up for this challenge? :)

Well, for one thing, it took so long to assemble the craft that flying it somewhere was done just a few days before the deadline. This was mainly a creativity, docking, and construction challenge.

Maybe before that, we should see how Manley would deal with this Whackjob level challenge :P

In fact, I would love to see that!

Most insane builder in the KSP community + The most well known and among the most skilled pilots in the KSP community= I'm not sure what, but it will definitely be awesome. And explosive.

In all seriousness, though, hats off, both to Whack and those who participated in this challenge. And I don't even care about the World Cup!:D Or sports in general, for that matter.

The fact that fuel is not limited in this challenge. Paraphrasing: "The ability to land a gazillion tons of LFO on a Tylo surface depot is insignificant next to the assembly of the Arkingthaad..."

I never thought of using landing gear that way. I always assumed it would clip through the pieces under stress. O.o
They have a little bit of suspension, just enough to hold snugly without clipping.

Also you need to disable steering on the wheels for good measure. That´s a tight build right there allmhuran, congratulations... no landing? :sticktongue:

Since there's a lot of understandable anticipation and impatience, here's something to tide everyone over until the official entries are revealed!

That's incredible! Here, have some reputation. :) But if you say you recorded a real landing, you should have definitely put that in there! (Not that the explosions weren't funny.) Anyway, it's amazing to see a one-man entry that looks like it was done by a whole group of people!

On a different note, the thread is usually updated by now, right? *waiting*

One of the perks of not being an official contender... I don't have to do the challenge as such :P I did try to show that it could indeed be landed, just before I swap out to highlight m1sz's youtube comment about needing more explosions I basically zero out all velocity with lots of fuel left, so you can just imagine doing that a couple of hundred meters further down. But the explosive finale just seemed to flow naturally with the storyboard.

Many apologies for not being around. We had a fun little thunderstorm, here, at the very beginning of my weekend. The kind that blows up a bloody transformer right in front of your house. Only just NOW has power been restored. I imagine I have a lot of catching up to do.
