Kerbal Stuff, an open-source Space Port replacement

Interesting... what happened to the other 20 mods?

P.S: and since we are on the topic, can I ask you the site's stats? You did say I could ask them when I wanted. Please?

I don't even think there's 100 mods. Where are all the mods when browsing? I count a little more than a dozen... http://beta.kerbalstuff.com/browse

It's a long standing issue that you can't browse all mods on the site. It'll be fixed for the redesign.

So if there's no prior link that you're following or don't know what to search for you won't see it.... ok thanks, I understand.

Yeah. It basically renders KerbalStuff useless from an user point of view. The fact that this feature hasn't been considered as a priority in the initial design somewhat blows my mind...

The site currently allows modders to host mods and users to find them through the forum or other venues, and it works rather well. There are more serious things to be done first, and the site is in beta.

Well, I disagree because I disagree with your definition of user: the main "user" of this site is the modder, not the mod user, and it does a pretty good job at it.

If you check the issues you will see that most of the feature requests are meant for the modder, not for the mod user.

@SirCmpwn: it looks like the download per version graph is a bit flawed:

uw58cUV.jpg

(this is for my low profile misc engines set).

@Ippo: of course but restricting by some means the users base of KS is a bad thing and IMHO a "modders only" website is mostly useless.

(many hosting sites provide the same important features like download statistics and obviously hosting, it just need more work on display from modders)

Thanks for the tip, Justin.

As for whether or not Kerbal Stuff is a site for modders or for mod users, the answer is both. However, the important one is modders, since users will go where the modders go. I wanted to cater to them first and now I can cater to the users. Like I keep saying, it's in beta and some things are definitely lacking.

Redesign update: I fixed all the links (so it'll always be /mod/id/name instead of /mod/id) and did a bunch of tweaking. The biggest accomplishment of the past few hours, though, is that I redid the mod creation process:

https://mediacru.sh/9z0z0tC6jYHd

That complicated form is gone and now it's just the bare minimum. You can add detail after your mod is created. The result is that it takes less than a minute to upload a new mod :)

After doing some marathon coding today, the redesign is finished! You can check it out now, it's live: http://beta.kerbalstuff.com

There are a number of todo items I closed with this redesign. Among them are the ability to browse every mod on the site, and a bunch of bug fixes.

And thanks again to Chris Burns for the design inspiration and a lot of the CSS work! It looks great.

A lot of the buttons do not work, like uploading a header, deleting a release version. Also the stats list is now public?

Not liking that you can no longer have any pictures of the mod, unless I'm missing the upload feature.

Try Ctrl+F5, some stuff is probably still cached. I am aware of the fact that deleting an old version doesn't work, I'll fix it tomorrow. Yes, all stats are now public.

First-class screenshots are deprecated but you can still embed Imgur albums or just standalone pics, or YouTube videos, in your mod description. This is better because it gives you more control over where in your description the screenshots appear instead of just forcing you to live with it after the first paragraph.

Fantastic work! Great to see it all coming together. :) Not to nag you, but do you mind listing my name in the contributors if you haven't done so already, as well as listing my name in the post that is three above mine? You don't have to, I just thought it would be cool.

I feel like .... for asking this, but what did you do that you wish to be credited for?

What I'm not loving are all the colors. They are distracting and pull your attention away from the mod description and download button which is the main reason everyone is going there right?

I've already heard that, and I plan on making the mod listings a little less vibrant.

Make a pull request for that.

You can always search the site directly with Google. Try using this:

<insert mod name here> site:beta.kerbalstuff.com

(P.S. This works in any browser for any site that does not explicitly tell Google to NOT crawl.)

SirCmpwn,

Excellent work. I just saw the new layout.

WOW!!!

Well done, sir. Well done.

Thanks, TranceaddicT! And by the way, the quote you're quoting isn't relevant any longer - you can now browse all mods on the site.
