"Take Data" instead of returning materials bay?

Recommended Posts

I have a lander with a mystery goo container and a materials bay. Its a manned mission where the astronauts are coming back, but the lander isn't. If I used "Take Data" to move the data from the goo and bay to the capsule, and leave the goo and bay behind but return the capsule, do I get full science?

You'll get the maximum science for one run of the experiment. Capsules can only store one copy of an experiment per biome, so sometimes its best to send more than one experiment per biome.

Later on, you'll also get the Science Lab, which lets you "clean" those two experiments and reuse them if you take the data out first. It can also store unlimited copies of all experiments.

One thing you might want to keep in mind is that, with the advent of the contracts and currency system in 0.24, you'll be refunded a small bit for each part you bring back safely and recover on Kerbin. So if money is tight, it might still be beneficial to bring the science modules back if you're super-tight on cash.

That's a thought. Might make science labs+a few modules a more attractive option than dozens of modules that you leave littered all over the Sunar System.
