that'll be RealChutes.

Ah, haven't tried that mod. Thanks. But I'll modify the rules to allow real chutes to be used in the Realism Stock classes so people don't have to go crazy and use SRB's for brakes ;)

yeah I think they got their teeth really cut on my Thrust KSC Landspeed Challenge, I'm not sure but I think the sound barrier was actually breached pretty late (VERY difficult to do in 2.5km including stopping distance at ground level!) - it's a similar challenge to this one except with the strict rules that the sled had to stop on the runway, it could not leave the ground - period - and it had to carry a Kerbal. Bad Enough Dudez even picked it up for a video series!

Sorry IH, wasn't trying to steal your thunder. I didn't know that challenge even existed and I searched.

With ions? That's actually pretty impressive. I'm lucky to get to 10m/s by the end of the runway.

Thanks! I've been spending too much time playing with ion gliders these past few weeks, so I've picked up way more experience with them than any sane man would want. Freakin ions... :/

Best,

-Slashy

You can try what I'm doing... circumnavigating Eve non stop... with propellers.

Fengist,

I also submitted a record run in "unrealistic super stock" class. Is it acceptable, or do I need to resubmit it?

Best,

-Slashy

I did not even see it. Good call. Added and welcome to the top spot. My condolences to your pilot's family.

Grazi!

I'd say he died doing what he loved, but throughout the entire run he looked like he'd rather be anywhere else. He will be missed...

Unrealistic Stock

Top Speed:251 m/s

Version 0.24 64-bit. All stock except for Kerbal Alarm Clock and Texture Replacer (I only chose to use TR for the skybox).

Seeing as not many people have posted for unrealistic stock, I figured,"Eh, why not?"

I came up with a relatively simple, lightweight, and minimal part design that worked like a charm (until the end of the runway :sticktongue: ).

[Craft file]

How to use: Get Kerbal into seat. Throttle up. Toggle SAS on. Toggle off brakes. Wait until the craft starts to slightly move. Punch it.

NOTE: Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. No idea why :D

Following the discovery of this challenge, a small subsiviary has branched off from the main Federation's Space Program, named Space Motor Vehicles, or S.M.V. for short. Though their first model is, indeed, a dragster, more choices can appear, such as a Super Rover meant to test Kerbals' resistance to G-forces, or a superstylish car to drive around on Laythe.

*ahem* Anyway... here's the rover and the results:

171m/s. Not bad, I guess...

Only mods used are Kerbal Engineer Redux, RealChute and RasterPropMonitor, but the latter is just for visuals and does not affect performance. The M1 is powered by a jet engine, so it would be classified in the Stock group.

(For those of you that haven't noticed, SMV is an obvious spin-off of BMW, hence the name "M1".)

I"m going to be back out on the road for a few weeks so it may take me a couple of days before I can get to update the leaderboard. I do get emails when new posts come in on my cell and I will respond to them so keep posting your entries. Editing the leaderboard with a cellphone is akin to landing on Jool.
