Kerbonaut physics

Hi,

I'm a little surprised as i just discovered that kerbonauts aren't subject to physics. If in a pod, they'll die as the pod crash at 12m/s, but if you EVA them, they won't die at the moment they touchdown at lightspeed...

Is it normal, is it a bug, what the hell is wrong with them?

(Sorry if i missed an existing thread on this matter)

Kerbals are subject to physics, but the thing is that they are made up of many different parts with different impact tolerances. For example, an area of their jetpack has an impact tolerance of infinite, while some other parts can only withstand 6 m/s.

Just the other night, Shepstead Kerman accidentally let go of the capsule ladder when he EVA'd during a parachute-slowed descent over Kerbin. He fell from about 350m up, but instead of going "poof" like I thought he would, he conveniently bounced even though he hit feet-first and then stood up like nothing happened. Good on you, Shepstead.

Hi,

Thanks for those answers. I'm asking because I started a career mode where I said to myself I wouldn't reset any launch even if it went wrong. But as my first launch goes I accidentaly EVA-ed Jeb at 12.000 m. After around an eternity of panicking, trying to activate the jetpack, more panicking, trying to find a bit of water to splash into, sweating, panicking even more, crying and swearing to all known gods, ... he bounced on the pavement of KSA's cafeteria, pretty safe. I was relieved, but surprised, but relieved, even if i had to change my pants in the end.

Yea, Kerbal impacts are a little weird

Don't count on any surviving though, they usually don't
