Mk2 cockpit is ugly

Recommended Posts

And it's 100% because it has no nose, and nothing looks good on it. Why is there not a single cockpit that looks decent?, they all look like they were designed by 5 year olds.

Either they have such a distinctive look that makes them only good for certain designs or they are so bland that they make anything they are a part of look terrible.

I mean has anyone looked at an actual jet when designing the cockpits?, or do they just take a structural part and slap on a glass dome?

that's just like, your opinion, man

I am terribly sorry my good sir, but what are your justifications for this position? In fact, what is your position? It seems as if you disagree, but it is not made clear in your post. I happen to agree with Mr. Flcl, the Mk2 cockpit has an unsatisfactory appearance and looks as if it is meant for recreations of propeller planes, even though this game does not include propellers as a means of generating thrust. It also has an almost nonexistent IVA, something that brings me great frustration when trying to create aeroplanes of a new and experimental design. Also, in addition, I would like to bring to attention your lack of capitalization and the very obvious absence of a period at the end of your sentence. If you were attempting to parody, lampoon, or otherwise spoof the character of a coastal weightlifter then I applaud your very convincing act. However, upon closer inspection of your posting history, it seems as if this is, indeed, not an act, and is, in fact, the way you normally speak on internet forums. In this case I wish you great luck in future letters and contacts with businesses, friends, and acquaintances.

The aerospace parts were designed ages ago as a mod for KSP, and have never received an update. Supposedly at least some of them are getting remade for 0.25 but KSP could definitely use a dedicated stockalike aerospace part pack (I don't like B9 because it's too big and depends on too many other mods).

By the way, /victorian Gentleman needs to be a thing. Can we please make that a thing?

Here's hoping the remodeled aero parts mean a redesigned aerodynamic system too (looking at you, FAR).

Ah yes Mr. Fire, we must spread this product throughout the land! Place it in every pub! Every warehouse! Every shop! Every bakery! Why, in just a short amount of time we could have all of Great Britain using this product! Although, please be sure to use brackets instead of Greater than and Less than signs, it seems that the forum recognizes them as HTML and strikes them from the record with a speed I haven't seen since the high-speed rail attempt of 1902, leaving others with the impression you are simply acting like a high-class hooligan.

I recommend this one instead:

Spaceplane plus

all the advantages of B9 with none of the drawbacks.

Yeah, I like it better than B9. B9 has bigger cargo bays (that I've yet to put in the air) though and a nice part to write annotations (such as, which are your action groups, or the contracts you expect to fulfill)

Anyway, no nose it's a good thing, at least functionally, as you can attach stuff in front.

Only problem I have with the Mk2 is the unfinished IVA. Other than that I find it the most useful of the cockpits as I can stick it inline. I frequently stick a docking port up front or set the cockpit further back in the ship. I only use the mk1 for small atmosphere only planes and I dont make many of those.

I took those two cockpit IVA views as placeholders so far... I bet something cooler will be in store for the final game. And if you cant wait... There are two very nice and stockalike mods for cool interiors of both cockpits available here on the forums and on kurseforge.

I won't hear a bad word said about the Mk2 cockpit, with a wee bit of clipping it can be made to look fantastic.

Sam Hall's done a really nice IVA mod for it too, well worth checking out.

with a wee bit of clipping one can make everything look good in KSP :)

I do use the MK1 quite a lot. Its aesthetics don't clash too much with other parts in my opinion.

I hate the MK2. It looks like a MiG-17F from 1952. I can't see it as an upgrade or even a space worthy part.

I hate the MK3. It looks silly as part of a plane/spaceplane and that's when its in the atmosphere, the attachment node on the front makes anything off center.

The Spaceplane Plus mod does look good and without adding 128954 parts like B9. Yes I know there are only 89 parts but that's almost half the total stock parts just for spaceplanes. And I LIKE spaceplanes.

Also if you have to abuse clipping to make it work, it doesn't work.

I wholeheartedly concur my good Sir. This would be an utmost enjoyable meme. At your service.

Everyone back to their own selves please, and also a friendly reminder of no-reaction images please, the forums are not an image board, thank you :)

As for the cockpit, given it was designed in 0.14 and that all parts have evolved by now except for the plane parts, yeah, they do look out of place, but I'm happy using modded parts and don't really mind what am I even saying, I barely play anymore and never made planes anyway.

I think the Mk2 from outside looks pretty much fitting into the Kerbal universe and i use it a lot. The one thing that i really dislike is that it has no glas canopy interior like the Mk1. I actually don't understand why the interior can view was made when there was already the glas canopy interior from Mk1 which could have just been adapted. The Mk2 comes in really handy when constructing small and medium space planes that need a docking port or for attaching air intakes, thats precisely what it's been built for, or if you need 2 cockpits.

Here is an example of a space plane VTOL for planets/moons with oxygen atmosphere. Since it's transported by "space trains" it uses the Mk2 with a docking port.
