What if KSP had one big central server?

Recommended Posts

Think about it: Space Agencies would rule the planet... and more!

This concept would be cool for career mode; people could buy and sell science to other players using the funds, people could buy and sell space on their rocket ships for launches, and even more!

I don't know how time warp would work though. I think that is the big problem with KSP Multiplayer. Maybe people could line up mission times, and only during their time could they time warp? Idk

Just something to think about.

Multiplayer for a game like KSP surely is nice as long as all players in one "world" agree on the way they play. I wouldn't want to build a space station from multiple modules only to have it destroyed "for the evulz" by someone who thinks he must play the Joker. I haven't tried the multiplayer mod, but I guess KSP multiplayer has the possibility to be great as much as it could be horrible.

I agree Alshain, Dizzle and the Mechanic.

KSP is such a creativ (and often contemplative) game, I think I would quit from frustration, if a mission or vessel is destroyed/sabotaged by others just for fun.

With a few friends: yes. MMO: definetly no. But most of the time I honestly want to enjoy the game alone and then share some YAY-Moments via videos or screenshots with the community.

Have you ever seen a DMP server? Or worse, a KMP one? This is what happens with only 10 people on the server.

Even if much of that debris is from a Kessler bomb, there are tons of legitimate ships orbiting the planet. One would need a somewhat sophisticated filter in order to even see a ship they want, never mind the lag that could ensue.

Actually, I don't think you've even heard of it. Here you go.

It works pretty well, but it works much better with smaller servers. And there are measures being worked on to lock ships so only one player could use it, or the player could white-list friends, and a prototype de-Kessler is active, if I remember correctly.

One of my friends and I are considering setting things up at some point to have a space race of sorts. Creating a set of objectives, who accomplishes them first, etc. Once a majority are completed by a player the game is over and he won. We are planning to allow for attacks and such to happen because it would make the whole situation harder on us both. Set up a refueling station? Stolen! Megaship on its way home? Rammed!

The plan is to do something like have all of Player 1's ships be classified as stations, all of Player 2's ships to be bases. Each player has the other player's filter disabled so fog of war becomes a thing. This generally means that things in near Kerbin orbit are relatively easy to find/detect, whereas something further out-system is going to be harder to find. Kethane and a few other things would be enabled, so refueling stations would still be real, only now you have to take care to hide them in strange locations or away from the other players area of activity.
