Is it possible to record without the ui?

I know I can turn the UI off in-game and record that way, but I'm wondering if I can record normally but not have the UI show up in the recording.

I'm sure it isn't the same thing, but I figured that since I can choose to have the mouse cursor show up (or not) that it might be possible.

Thanks. :-)

I don't think you can without actually hiding the UI. The mouse cursor thing is probably because that's being drawn by the OS, not the game. Your screen recorder would have to tie into the game's renderer for that to work, I imagine, instead of just capturing the output.

Okay, thanks. :-) Dare to hope, eh?

Yeah, you'll have to work around it. You could simply crop the video, if you don't mind reducing the resolution.

Alternatively, set up a mod such as telemachus, that will then let you see your instruments on another screen separately from the main game.

Conceivably a mod might be able to do it, but I would imagine that mod would have to do the recording itself (and would be a very large undertaking). I don't actually know though, but it would be pretty awesome. It would make cinematics much easier.

You might be able to use one of the camera mods and put that on a separate monitor if that is possible. But that will give you more of a fixed view so you cant move the view without changing the direction the camera is pointing.

I would suggest in the absence of a mod for hiding GUI while recording to just play with your GUI options set to small and cropping your video when you render. You can use advanced navball to tweak the size of the navball independently of the rest of your GUI.

i am pressing F2 but nothing is happening to my game... Can anyone help fix this? im in version 1.3.1

Depending on how your keyboard defaults are set up, you may need to press a modifier key for the F keys to work. For example, the function keys on my keyboard are tied to things like volume, brightness, playback controls, etc. To get a KSP function to work, I have to hold my “fn” key (located near the left side ctrl, alt, and the Windows key on my HP laptop) and press the F key. Say, fn-F1 for screenshot, fn-F2 to hide the UI, etc...

doesnt work for me... it just does that stuff, brightness etc when i use fn

i can use F1

FOR screenshot

Then check your ingame key bindings to make sure f2 is still bound to hide UI.

Also, like stranded said, you might have some system app that's overirding the use of the F keys.  Wouldn't hurt to try, Shift-f, Ctrl-F2, etc.

And just a side note, F2 only works from Vessel or EVA view (I believe, I've never tried it anywhere else, never had a need to).  So if you're sitting at the KSC hitting F2, it might not do anything there.

I see you cross posted this in the support forum too, So I would direct any responses to this in that thread instead.   Let this thread die a peaceful death.
