Hey guys, I've completed my first batch of 1.1-proved Cyten units! The first being the good old Vikus, now as an improved A2 model. Additionally, a new challenger approaches: the Hearthaeven, my attempt at an AC-130 analogue.

AV-25A2 Vikus Infantry Fighting Vehicle

b260kFg.png

The AV-25A2 "Vikus" is an eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicle able to travel over any terrain, with the capability to carry a squad of six kerbals in the back. The Vikus is heavily armored, with testing showing it can take up to three direct hits to the front before it’s disabled, and it also boasts an armament of a 30mm autocannon and twin .50 caliber machine guns for infantry fire support. Following the Vikus' deadly tendency to flip at high speeds, Cyten engineers went to work designing an improved model. Thus, the Vikus-A2 was born. The Mark 2 model adds higher reliability without compromising the standard model's combat prowess. Remodeled armor was added to the front for increased protection, a rotating infrared targeting camera allows for greater situational awareness, and new smoke deployers can keep the Vikus and surrounding infantry concealed from incoming enemy fire. Furthermore, the Vikus' center of mass has been significantly lowered, keeping it from being highly prone to tilting at high speeds. To prevent a catastrophic wipeout, the aerodynamics have been tweaked; now the Vikus has a constant downward force pushing the wheels to the ground, preventing the wheels from rising during sharp turns. The most important change, however, is the new wheel system. Earlier Vikus models had basic, unreliable suspension which often broke tires during off-road travel. Now, the Vikus can handle even the largest jumps with ease. These new additions keep the Vikus as one of the deadliest vehicles on the modern battlefield.

A-310 Hearthaeven Heavy Attack Gunship

The A-310 "Hearthaeven" is a heavily armed, long endurance attack aircraft, sporting a wide array of specialized air-to-ground ordnance. Rather than carrying an arsenal of missiles, bombs, and other munitions, the Hearthaeven employs a deadly arsenal of ballistic weapons on its port side: two 105mm howitzers, one 30mm autocannon, and two 20mm gatling guns. During an attack, the Hearthaeven can execute a left-wing pylon turn, flying a large circle around the target, allowing it to fire for far longer than a conventional aircraft's strafing attacks. Using the infrared camera on the side, Hearthaeven gunners can effectively tear even the hardest enemy armor to shreds. To defend itself, the Hearthaeven comes equipped with two sets of four flare dispensers located on various parts of the fuselage, creating a distinct "angel wing" appearance, as well as four chaff dispensers and an on-board electronic weapons suite. The Hearthaeven's capability to target an opponent for a long duration with pinpoint accuracy will make it an invaluable asset for all allied units on the ground.

Hmm, that's odd. I changed it to a link, does it work now?

Yup, that did the trick. I'm liking how you went from a vulnerable pod inside to a pair of driver/navigator seats; looks really slick now.

That's a really nice plane, although the Millenium is 35mm irl and not 30.

What bugs me is that an interceptor would be ridiculously easily able to shoot it down, considering its size and low altitude.

The whole idea behind gunships is that they're used in areas where they either have air superiority established and/or an escort- plus, in the forthcoming episode I'm fairly certain any interceptors will be otherwise preoccupied with the other, faster, air-to-air equipped HKA jets.

EDIT:
BTW, @Mobius, that TOW setup in the Vikus is pretty slick- compact, reliable and nearly impossible to notice until you open the Weapons Manager. :P

Thanks, I agree! I like the driver/navigator style better, and it is definitely more survivable than the lander can. I had to remove the pod because it was slightly glitched into the wheels, and 1.1 did not like that at all. Fine by me though, it was time for it to go.

And I'm glad you like the ace up the Vikus' sleeve! :) I initially tried to have them appear mounted on the side of the turret but it looked rather silly (especially since it wouldn't rotate along with the turret). I tried a barrel-launched missile design instead, and it definitely looks much nicer.  It took a while to get it set up safely, but I now know that the Vikus can survive a missile detonating directly on the roof! :D

Yeah, I had to work with what I could get for the guns. The Millennium is supposed to be the analogue of the 40mm Bofors.

It would certainly be prone to intercepting fighters, but not any more so than a bomber. And as Scriptkitt3h already said, gunships like the AC-130 and Hearthaeven are supposed to operate in an area where air defenses have already been suppressed/eliminated. In a worst case scenario I guess the Hearthaeven gunner could try their skill at gunning down the aircraft as it flies past the port side. :P

So I finally watched the last two videos from about a half year ago and totally forgot that I had posted my military ships here.  I was surprised that you chose my plane for part of the ground/air attack force since I didn't think it even worked anymore in 1.0.  If you haven't filmed it yet, I can build an update for it.

I also have an updated version of my Sonald Destroyer (space ship) if you want or need it for future battles.

Let's see if they can beat the newest plane we have;

F-2DM ICE (Improved Combat Efficiency). The original F-2D weighing over 18 tons at full load, a project had been started to build a replacement which would be lighter and more maneuverable. Thus was created the F-2DM, with a revised intake and fuel tank space, leading to a new airframe weighing over three tons lighter. Also added were new intake ontop of the wings. Contrarily to its predecessor, this version is designed to be land-based, although theoretically capable of carrier operation with its extremely short take-off range. This fighter is  extremely polyvalent due to its ridiculously high T/W ratio of about 3/1. Thus flight throttle should be set around 50%, and full throttle only be used to evade missiles or join a combat zone quickly. This version also comes equipped with landing chutes to facilitate operation in improvised landing strips. At full throttle, speeds of Mach 2 can be reached, although autonomy is very short in those circumstances and drop tanks are recommended. A fuel cell array is included in the bottom gear bay along with two ECM jammers. Armed with four AIM-120 AMRAAMs and six AIM-9 Sidewinders, the F-2DM ICE is sure to be a formidable foe for the earlier HKA models present on the battlefield. Currently two versions are provided: the base F-2DM ASF and the F-2DMS loaded with four 1000lb bombs. Battlefield modifications for mounting ATGMs is also possible, a laser aimer being provided in the nose to guide both bombs and missiles.

1)Toggle Guard Mode, activate Flight AI

2)Toggle ECM

3)Fire Chaff

4)Fire Flare

Attached is a song the test pilots were humming over the radio quite often

HVTOL (Heavy VTOL). The HVTOL was created as a private venture for a dual role reconaissance, anti-tank and fire support vehicle. As its name suggests, the HVTOL can perform VTOL and static hovering flight. Its small size makes it an equally smaller target for AA vehicles. However, the current versions are in very early testing, and flying them can be extremely hard for untrained pilots. Only with experts can its maneuverability and hovering capabilities be used at their full potential. Two versions are currently undergoing combat testing: The HVTOL-1A armed with a 35mm autocannon and six Marverick missiles, and the RHVTOL armed with two AGM-88 HARM missiles, two twin M2 Browning turrets and two M230 30mm chain guns. Although both versions are equally capable and deadly, test crew has shown an interest in the sleeker body of the RHVTOL build to favorize stealth.

2)Fire smoke countermeasures

I guess no one posted fighter planes for pretty long either.

I'm looking forward to whatever HKA could send against us.

You can say that again.

I had been working on replacements for my current series of fighters, interceptors, bombers, etc., but school had become a major priority at the moment due to finals creeping up.

Still, HKA should prove to be a worthy foe to face in battle. Looking forward to it as well compadre.

Here is a screenshot of my new fighter based on the Jaysef.  It keeps the 2-seater functionality of the old one, and with so many wing parts and panther engines it is very maneuverable.

IUDRX9z.png

Unfortunately, while tweaking the new Sonald in the VAB the craft file got badly corrupted. I'll probably have to rebuild it completely.

I'll mention that I've taken a look at the Jaysef- it still works, and is pretty effective for a dedicated interceptor (high speed and all that). I'm pretty curious to see the new one in action though.

Howdy folks, I've completed my second batch of 1.1 aircraft! This time around, I've got you guys a bundle of military aircraft I've been developing over the past few weeks. These designs are inspired by the Harrier, Su-37, F-15E & F-15STOL/MTD, and E-767. :D

FV-08B Corsair VTOL Fighter

s2s9IdS.png

The FV-08B “Corsair” is a single-seat multirole fighter, with a trait not shared with many other aircraft: it can take off and land vertically, even with a heavy weapons load. The Corsair can achieve a vertical takeoff by employing two powerful engines located directly beneath the center of mass, pushing the Corsair upward with sheer force. This VTOL capability gives the Corsair to operate from practically anywhere, even carriers. It comes equipped with a 30mm chain gun located underneath the nose, which the Corsair can effectively use to support ground forces as it hovers in place. Additionally, the Corsair does not sacrifice any air-to-air performance for the ground attack mission, and it can hold its own against even the most formidable adversaries. These qualities have made the Corsair a well-respected name in the communities of various marine branches across Kerbin.

F-73 Aquila Multirole Fighter

tY7flNK.png

The F-73 “Aquila" is a twin-engine multirole fighter aircraft with a very high degree of three-dimensional maneuverability. Utilizing a swept wing blending into the fuselage and leading edge canard foreplanes, the Aquila excels at post-stall maneuvering, and can perform stunts thought impossible by many. Its powerful engines allow the Super Cobra to reach speeds in excess of 350 m/s at sea level and 800 m/s at altitude, while carrying a full fuel and ammunition load. The Aquila is capable of executing 15 G turns at three times the speed of sound, and is completely controllable after stalling, making it an exceptional aircraft for dogfighting. For both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, the Aquila can carry an impressive payload of weaponry on any of its ten hardpoints. The aircraft's blend of speed, agility, and firepower will easily make it an important aspect of the HKA Coalition air forces.

F-51E Garuda Strike Fighter

FBRs7Fz.png

The F-51E "Garuda" is a two-seat, twin engine strike fighter designed to carry an immense payload of weapons through long-range missions without the need of refueling. It is part of the latest generation in Cyten fighter aircraft, including numerous experimental upgrades to improve performance. The primary upgrade is the canards located in front of the main wing; these extra foreplanes provide enhanched maneuverability at all speeds, allowing the Garuda to maneuver on the same scale as dedicated dogfighters, even while it carries an air to ground payload. For ground attack missions, the Garuda is capable of holding over six tons of ordnance. For air superiority missions, it can carry a deadly payload of over a dozen assorted air-to-air missiles. With its sheer amount of firepower, the Garuda easily creates the main force of Cyten strike packages.

E-676 SkyEye Airborne Warning And Control System

6yphpjU.png

The E-676 "SkyEye" is a large airborne early warning and command center. The main feature of the SkyEye is its powerful radar, able to detect and monitor all targets within a 20 kilometer radius. With that radar, the AWACS provides the all-weather surveillance, command, control, and communications that are paramount to Cyten and HKA air commanders. When used in conjunction with an aerial strike package or a ground task force, the SkyEye can can be positioned at the edge of the enemy's air defense network, to provide real-time targeting data and threat updates. The passenger compartment can hold 42 operators, and is filled to the brim with computers that can detect and track enemy units at all altitudes, as well as radio equipment capable of communicating with all friendly forces on any frequency. For complete situational awareness, a SkyEye is a necessary addition to any major operation.
