Planets and moons without Biomes?

Recommended Posts

Is there any reason for me to explore and do science beyond Kerbin, Mun, and Minmus now that I've completed them? Should I quit playing now and wait for the rest of the planets, moons, etc. to get their Biomes populated? I kind of feel like proceeding will be either a waste of time or just be boring since there will a lot less science to do without Biomes. Any advice would be helpful.

Oh, the bodies beyond Kerbin do HAVE "Biomes".

Well. They have ONE each.

And the science is quite large for that one biome.

Haven't maxed out the science since the contracts yet, but my guess is that you can max that without ever leaving Kerbin Space, just like before.

Up to you.

I find biome-hopping around Mun/Minmus to be boring; there's very little challenge (except perhaps landing a fully equipped science lander on Minmus' "Slopes" biome) and it's far more satisfying to have complete the tech tree by sending Kerbals and probes across the system in search of science, even if it costs far more* and takes a lot longer in real time.

*To get everything anyway, but that doesn't mean it's hard to fund it. I have a ion-based probe that can go anywhere for just under 31000 funds (including launcher and transfer stage, and it can almost certainly be done more cheaply), sit in low orbit and transmit temperature readings every time a contract asks for science data. Every time that happens I make far more funds than the probe cost in the first place. That's on top of the fact that every interplanetary contract gives a substantial amount of money.

There's the challenge and the scenery. It's not all about in-game rewards. :)

So much this. We were going to the other planets and moons before Science was even a thing.

If you haven't stood on Duna's surface and watched Ike librate in the sky, or driven a rover around Eve's purple landscape in crushing gravity, or watched Jool rise from low Laythe orbit, you're missing out on some of the best content in the game.
