Forum Reputation Points Limitations

It's a bit of an annoyance that having given somebody a Rep point, you cannot do so again until you've given number of points to X number of other users. Yes, I realize this is to prevent spamming points on somebody so they get a bazillion points. However, when somebody has helped this newbie modder with several unrelated problems that are not in the same thread, I'd like to give credit where credit is due. Currently, I can offer only my public gratitude for their assistance.

What's the solution? Perhaps trust that folks won't spam the points. Anyway, just something to consider for the future.

I hear you. Sometimes a poster gets on a roll and makes several great posts that I'd like to rep but I'm unable to rep more than one. I've tried keeping a list so I can go back and rep them when I can but I'm a forgetful sort and rarely remember.

That said, I've participated in forums that don't have the limitation and there ends up being a rep exchange where posters trade rep back and forth to run up their scores, making reputation particularly meaningless. Not sure if there's a good solution.

I feel this is only a minor annoyance compared to what happens when you do not limit things this way. It will go wrong, that much is certain.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
