Game of Thrones producer to adapt Red Mars to television

Link.

Game of Thrones producer Vince Gerardis has inked an agreement with Spike to produce a TV series based on Kim Stanley Robinson's epic hard sci-fi Mars trilogy. I love those books, and I really hope that the series can be made without dumbing down all the terraforming science or giving in to the common sci-fi tropes. No word on casting or other production details yet.

Okay let me get the joke out of the way first:

How are they going to have topless women in every scene if everybody's in space suits?

Now for the actual content:

I'm jazzed about this. I've really enjoyed the televised Game of Thrones and if they can do the same to Red Mars... yeah that sounds like something I'd like to watch.

Transparent space catsuits is my guess. :) Seriously though, Spike isn't HBO and they stay generally PG as far as I know.

I am cautiously optimistic. The producer associated with it is quite good, but I've been burned too many times with sci-fi books adapted to the screen so I'm not getting overly excited just yet.

Ambitious, I'll give them that. The third book, as the tech becomes increasingly speculative, won't be easy or cheap. There will be a lot left out.

Inevitable that a lot will get left out, though it's a bit better with a TV series than with a movie. I'm not overly optimistic it will get to the third book, it seems sometimes that any smart sci-fi series gets cancelled within a season or two.
