1/10 Stock System Config for RSS

metaphor

Recommended Posts

Yes, this is a configuration for RSS that has the stock planets but at 1/10th the stock size. That means Kerbin has a 60 km radius, its atmosphere ends at 7 km up, the Mun orbits at 1140 km, etc. The orbital and rotational periods are also scaled to match, and the surface gravities should be the same as stock.

Still having some problems with the terrain of some planets (Minmus looks pretty cool though). But Kerbin itself should actually be OK. It's pretty fun, like KSP on easy mode.

DOWNLOAD

Installation instructions: Put this file into your KSP/GameData/RealSolarSystem folder, and remove the file "RealSolarSystem.cfg" from that folder.

A time control mod is recommended, since the default altitudes for time warp are way too high now.

Known bugs:

-Kerbin's atmosphere seems to cut off rather abruptly when viewed from the ground.

-lots of exaggerated terrain, mainly on the smaller bodies

-Laythe suddenly has lots of small islands

-Gilly and Bop seem to lag a lot as you get close to them

edit: Renegrade has a RealSolarSystemSettings.cfg file for balanced solar power generation in post #6 below.

Yay!

When you mentioned you were making a 1/10th scale Kerbin, I was reminded of that xkcd thing about the Little Prince's asteroid/planet (http://what-if.xkcd.com/68/), and became very excited, and started to make my own version.

It's less developed, but I do have a powercurve in RealSolarSystemSettings.cfg that might help:

There are/were some issues in mine that were amusing, so I made some screenshots:

Crap. Now I'm addicted to this. :( Here's what my brain is doing:

It's not realistic!

But it's fun!

You don't get any satisfaction

But it's fun!

The terrain looks crazy!

But it's fun!

It's stupidly bad, even worse than stock KSP at realism, and it's demeaning to the very spirit of the game.

But it's f-

Yes, I get it. "Fun". Whatever.

I've been messing around, and using Kerbal Isp Difficulty Scaler, 0.3 is a good number to make the Kerbal X a one-way Smun-lander.

That makes sense since the delta-v's are about 3 times smaller than stock (sqrt(10) to be more precise).

So I flew a few missions here.

It's a miniaturized Kerbal X. Why would you want that? Well, the stock system has been rescaled to 10% it's current size. To facilitate this, I use Kerbal Isp Difficulty Scaler to turn down the rocket efficiency. I have Atmosphere and Vacuum set to 0.6, but I might lower that to 0.5 because this rocket is still a bit too overpowered. I also use Time Control to allow proper timewarping altitudes.

Here's the .craft file if you want it.
