Strange involuntary roll

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have a strange phenomenon: Im coasting from Kerbal to Mun with a simple ship. As soon as I disengage SAS, the craft starts rolling ever faster...

What could be the cause?

PS: I have the MechJeb-mod, could the Attitude Adjustment do something funny?

Thanks for your Help!

Hard to know from the facts you've given. Try disabling Mechjeb and see if the problem goes away. Also, have you ensured that you are not accidentally thrusting a little? I've had a few situations where I thought the engines were off but the throttle was still slightly on.

If it rolls along its axis, this might be side boosters connected slightly off-center:

The booster connection is not on it's thrust axis, so it will want to bend a little bit and will produce some torque.

If you have a joystick installed, make sure that it's centered and not sending unintentional attitude commands. Look at the little indicators in the lower right. Are they reading control input telling the ship to rotate?

I was just gonna say joystick. That seems to be the answer to 99% of these.

Pics?

That said, I'd try hitting alt+x on the chance that it's a trim issue.

That was it - obviously I had involuntarily set trim (didn't know what that does until now. Now I do...)

Some things are so easily found once you know what you are lookin for. ;-)

Thanks all for your help!
