Spoilers for .26!

I hope they also rebalance the science gain along with that. More biomes usually means way more science gain, but you can already unlock the entire science tree without even going outside the Kerbin System

The new difficulty menu changes that though!

Sweet!

Nice, but this is probably getting locked in a few minutes.

Why would it be locked, it's not speculation, it's information coming from Squad. It's definitely too early for Speculation, but if Maxmaps offers it up, that's different.

I like the fact you can max-out the tree in one or 2 systems... It adds replayability.

In one game I went Jool, in my latest game I went mun/minmus.

In the future I might spend it all at Duna, or Eve. Or any other planets added.

My 2 cents.

True that, but I'd prefere 2 systems over just 1. A proper push outside of the Kerbin System. We already have a first step towards that with contracts, but I'd like science to also push it

Hmm i guess they need to work on career still but a bit disappointing for people like me who only play sandbox, I guess there will be other things too though

Well, the new parts that get added also add to sandbox. Though it was always supposed to be second to career

The new difficulty menu changes that though!

Yea, is there actually a list with the options? I couldn't get the video in proper HD, so I couldn't read it

If they allow science to be used as a currency for other things that would greatly help. One of the original designs that we have yet to see is exchangeable currencies. Having more science just means you can use it to power your entire program.

I also hope they re-balance science gains for the new biomes, to be honest, the fact that you can max out the entire science tree with just 3 bodies (kerbin, mun, and minmus), when (i'm just guessing) there's at least 14 bodies in the entire kerbol system, is too easy.

I hope the difficulty modifier allows for global science changes. Biomes are nice, because then it's not a situation where you can go somewhere once, land, do almost nothing there other than take readings, take off and return to kerbin, and never return (right now its like this for bodies without biomes), but I do think in this case the mun, and minmus provide too much science. Maybe if there was a mechanic where if you use, say, a sci jr. in the mun's highlands, you'll get less points when you go to a new biome and use a sci jr. there, because it's the same planet, just a slightly different biome.

I'd love to see Science have more value than part unlocking, cause right now it's pretty empty. Like others have said, you can max out the tree without ever leaving the Kerbin lot, which makes sending exploratory probes to other planets (once you've already been to them, of course) more or less meaningless beyond sight seeing.

There's nothing worth exploring there beyond seeing the planet, which we've all long done a thousand times.

Perhaps if there was some Advisory Panel to provide positive or negative influence in your missions. Like trying to take expensive equipment into the Eve atmosphere before first verifying it's approachable (with your expanded array of science equipment) would be refused by the panel, and attempting to do so would result in a big ticket and rep penalty. That way science in a way would "unlock" missions as well, by proving planets are safe to the panel, there's something of value there, etc.

Of course right now all planets are exactly the same, empty multi-colored balls of various gravities, so I guess the planets would need something worth exploring first.

scissors-

so in essence, some structure to encourage unmanned missions to bodies, then unmanned lander missions to bodies, then manned missions to bodies, in that order? I like that. It's how I play usually anyway though.

very nice! Not sure if this is an IBTL because this is a valid discussion!

If they don't want us to TALK about it... they shouldn't TWEET about it, n'est-ce pas?

This news of new extraplanetary biomes suddenly fills me with apathy about 0.25 and hype over 0.26. 0.26 Hype Train anyone? Super Saver Advance Tickets, book three months in advance!

Seriously, the lack of biomes outside Kerbin's SOI is one of the biggest things whose lack I notice about the game thus far. Especially when it looks like they have created certain zones and places that ought to be biomes but, so far at least, aren't: Duna's polar ice caps and mighty "Mount Olympus", or the Vailhenge and other easter eggies hiding among Jool's moons.

Of course, if they give us all this potential new sources of science... they must also give us some new tech to unlock towards the top of the tree, right? Okay, perhaps I'm heading into wishful thinking territory.

This pass adding biomes to other bodies could be the precursor to new planets.

(fingers crossed)

I thought they did say they wouldn't add planets before "finishing" the existing ones. However, this is all from my memory, which isn't that reliable.

I've noticed a more important thing, though. Squad finally noticed their aerodynamic model sucks! They started to dig into the code when they introduced the cargobays, and they indicated they don't like how it looks. So, maybe they'll remake it for 0.26... Imagine the hype for that! I don't expect FAR in stock, but NEAR-level aerodynamics should be done, at the very least.
