Finally bought the game!

I'm super excited, I finally bought the game after messing with the Demo for a while. I basically have to play KSP because this is where I work:

No, I don't work with a bunch of gamers. I literally work with rocket scientists!

Anyway, anyone know whether I'm going to have problems installing KSP on two computers? Do I need an additional license for that? Also, should I download the "Installer" or the ".25" packet? What's the difference? Do I completely erase the demo first, or does it go on top somehow?

Cheers!

You can install KSP on multiple computers and (depending where you got it) can have multiple installs on the same computer even...pretty handy for backups actually.

I'm unsure how to answer you regarding the "Installer" or the ".25 packet", as I bought and own the game on STEAM and it's downloaded and installed/updated via the STEAM interface. I would assume, however, that you could download the installer without an issue and it should install .25 for you.

Regarding the demo, I'd suggest removing it...it's a MUCH older version of KSP and probably not worth having around since you have the full game now!

Edit: Oh, and one more thing...welcome to the party. Be sure your head and arms are kept inside the ride at all times and prepare to kiss any and all free time you once had GOODBYE :D

I'd recommend getting the zipped file from the KSP store as long as you know how to open it. It's just a lot easier to make multiple copies in whichever folders you want - just unzip it several times. For the same reason you don't need to remove the demo if you still think you'll get some use for it. The demo's still on my machine so I can check how things work in it if someone asks a question that specifically needs the demo. Then again, I also have both stock and modded installs of 0.24.2 and 0.25 (ie; five KSP installs on this one machine).

Hi there!

In answer to the multiple computers thing, KSP is a game that bucks the trend by including absolutely zero DRM or copy protection. So long as the copies are for your own personal use, I don't think Squad care. If you're installing it all around the office (where many people might be playing it), it might be nice if you bought multiple copies. Otherwise though, copy it to as many machines or locations as you feel necessary for your own enjoyment.

If you bought from the KSP store on the main website, you get the choice of a self-extracting installer .exe, or you can get a zip file (my personal preferred option) and just extract it to wherever you like. From Steam, you can still download the game and then copy it straight out of the Steamapps folder. For people who do things like modding the game (or playing with mods that don't work with 0.25 yet), having multiple installations isn't just nice, but damned near essential.

As for the demo, well, as mentioned above, get rid of it. Unless you want the nostalgia value, it's a rather old version of the game, it's restricted in parts and the ability to modify, and includes nowhere near the number of features of the full game that you now have.

And don't forget to have fun. It's what games are all about, eh? Especially this one.

Your turn, NASA/JPL!

I hope you can have multiple copies, I probably have at least 7 somewhere on my hard drive at this point. I made extra copies for mods and then kind of forget about them...

Also, KSP uses patched-conics, not n-body, just a heads up in case you are used to the latter.

Or patcher/rsync, which is the nerdiest option.

Welcome! I'm working on an Aerospace degree right now so I love seeing all these rocket scientist types on the forums!

I also enjoyed calling out my roommate who doesn't own KSP by telling him that someone new to the forums just bought the game. :sticktongue:
