i do a lot of fixed point math in embedded projects. i also frequently use x<<1 or x>>1 instead of x*2 or x/2, respectively.

A much better one is "When does 11 - 10 = -9" because it works without changing base.

Or "When is 7 + 7 = 0, and 7 * 7 = 6?". That one works without changing base, and for a different (though related) reason than the one above...
