I mean the randomly generated ones that spawn around Kerbin with contracts. How did they get up there when Kerbin's first space program started just a few weeks ago and the first rocket to reach orbit was launched the previous day? How does Rockomax, a company who's engines have not even been developed yet manage to strand Camlorf Kerman into space?

If it's Jeb's Junkyard, however, I can believe it. Jeb's a crazy man, I have no doubt he'd manage a way to boost some guy he got into an argument with into space.

How do you think they do it?

Thats quite simple. Before branching into rockets as the new thing for geting into space most of these companies were working on developing independent versions of a stealth catapult. At some point they could launch kerbals onto a suborbital trajectory and then tried silly things like sending them up with fire extinguishers for propulsion once at AP. Sadly these improvised methods of orbital maneuvering left many poor test dum... er pilots stranded.

Because they were still trying to get the Eva jetpacks to work properly and kerbals kept getting launched into space

Experimental Launch Cannon. Doesn't need a lot of tech, but is highly unpredictable.

Joking aside, the notion is actually quite old, dates back to the 19th century in real life, I belive.

I got a contract that spawns a Kerbal in space once, and it's Vacuum Co.

Maybe, just maybe, they developed a vacuum cleaner that's a portal to outer space.

I always assumed that, with all the parts that you can unlock within mere days, and everything else that's going on... You're not the first space program, you're the guys brought in to take over from the previous group that really screwed up - so much so that all of their data was sold off at auction, leaving your tracking station to occasionally locate their stranded kerbalnauts. Also explains why science unlocks parts; you trade your science results to those auction winners in return for getting the previous space program's blueprints back.

Perhaps we have Kerbal geneology entirely wrong... what if the Kerbals actually are born of SPACE and are instead stranded in KERBIN?!!! ET is just trying to phone home!!
