I Do not understand the games reputation indicator

Recommended Posts

I have been playing this game for several weeks now having landed on the Mun, Minmas and sent an unmanned probe to Duna. This is my first post to this forum because I can not find in my searches any explanation of what that color bar reputation indicator means! When you take a contract, It gives you a numerical amount of reputation points to be awarded. I stare blankly at this bar trying to decipher what it means. Now, i know that I run the risk of being told what an Idiot I am, but I don't get why it is not just a simple numeric value. Instead I got some green then some blue then alternating dark and light blue stripes! Theres a tiny number 75 over the green section I can hardly make

From what I understand about reputation scale:

- It's capped at 1000 (positive) and -1000 (negative)

- The numbers on the scale represent percents (i.e. 75%)

- You cannot get part of reputation reward; either you get it full, or you get nothing at all. Example: you have 950 Reputation (your scale is almost reached the striped section). You take a contract with a reward of 51 Reputation and complete it. You will not get 1001 (950+51), and you will not get 1000 (950+50); your Reputation will stay at 950, although Contracts app will tell you that you received your 51 Reputation points.

I still dont know how many reputaions I got! I cant interpret the data, dont know what it means.

Yeah, you won't find the exact number of your reputation points anywhere in game.

Judging by your descriptions, I assume you're on the light blue section of reputation scale; that means you almost maxed it out.

I stand corrected.

I've just realized that you in fact CAN view your reputation points in game.

You need to recover a manned vessel; then, in mission summary window, go to the Crew tab, and you'll see your points. Just launch Mk1 pod and recover it, like I did here:

Note that my reputation is high; that means I don't get any points from a mission with reward higher than 111 points (1000-889=111).

Is this still the only way to see one's exact reputation total? Seems very odd to me that the exact number is so hard to find.

It's also shown on the list of saved games to load.

The way rep is displayed isn't consistent, however. Sometimes you see it as a 3-digit number, sometimes as a percent. The 3-digit should be read as "12.3%".

To the OP, 1st off, welcome aboard. Second, rep also has a law of diminishing returns. The more you have, the less of the contract amount you actually gain. This makes it pretty much impossible to max it out. Now, I myself have never seen much use for rep except as something to convert into science and/or money. So I've never worried about it.

...Are you sure that's how it works? Because both the wiki and my personal experience with the game disagrees. (Unless it changed in 1.0, but there was nothing in the changelog, so...)

Your reputation gains from missions should be equal to x * (1 - reputation / 1000), where x is the stated reputation payout for a given task. In other words, if you are at 0 reputation, you get the full payout. If you are at 250, you should get 75% payout. If you are at 500, you should get 50% payout. If you are at 950, you should get 5% payout.

I've never encountered a case where I did not get any reputation at all despite being promised some.
