broken textures and random crashes

Recommended Posts

KSP Version: .25 on Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit, 4gb ram, Intel E5700, Nvidia G210 1gb.

What Happens: Fresh Install. When I enter the VAB, the parts are un-viewable, and all the icons at the top are invisible. Someone else here linked a picture to exactly what I am experiencing.

Steps to Replicate: It is a random occurrence on a newly built PC

Result: Sad feelings. Unable to play.

Fixes/Workarounds: I don't know

Can you provide your output_log.txt from in the KSP_Data folder as described in the sticky thread in this forum?

When running on 32 bit versions of windows, KSP is only able to use 2 Gig of ram. KSP 0.25 with default settings comes very close to this limit so try reducing the texture resolution in the graphics settings or running KSP with the -force-opengl option to reduce the amount of memory it is using.

I can do that once I get back to my PC. Thank you!

Getting a corrupt install through steam with 0.25 seems to be a bit more common than in the past. Try deleting your KSP directory (or moving it somewhere else) and verify the game with steam. That will force it to redownload a fresh copy.

Also, merged threads...

Cheers,

I get my copy of KSP straight from their website. I have done a fresh install multiple times. I keep getting the same result. It only happens with the VAB, which I find very strange. The R&D building works fine as does the SPH. I have had the game crash twice after trying to leave the VAB by using the exit button. How is this problem not reported more and a solution posted? Also, how do I post the output log?

Yikes, that looks bad cobhc, it's is possible the zip is fubar but it's also possible the gfx card is flaky.

But, the most likely cause is Windows, there's something called Data Execution Prevention which'll prevent KSP from properly writing several files it needs, some stuff is procedurally generate when KSP is first run, among those things are meshes and the settings.cfg

Either unzip KSP again to a non-Windows folder (c:\Games is good for this) or copy your existing KSP install to there, delete the settings.cfg and start the game.

It should work :)
