Holy Crap. Browser Redirects Viruses

Recommended Posts

It is official. My brother is no longer allowed to use this computer. I don't care if it is 'his', I have spent too many hours trying to fix it. So many viruses removed.

Here is a list of browser redirects I can't remove on Chrome, even with the help of Google. Just now I used Adwcleaner, Malwarebytes, JRT, HitmanPro and my actual anti-virus Sophos to no avail.

-snip-

I also get redirected to yhs4.us, a fake yahoo search, half the time I use the chrome omnibar, and samsbox.com is a pop-up thing that appears in the corner of my Chrome advertising crap.

The worst part is, I have adblock.

Pls help. This is too much.

Look in your installed programs list for recently installed software. Uninstall everything that you don't recognize or that looks fishy.

After that, go into you internet options and Google chrome settings, and remove any fishy extensions you see and reset the home page back to what you had it set before. Also check the omnibar and make sure it's using google as the search engine.

From a known safe computer (ie *not* the infected one) download Kaspersky Rescue CD. Burn it to a CD and boot the infected computer from it. Update the virus definitions (*essential*) and run a scan.

For future security, give your brother an account that's a standard user and don't tell him the administrator password.

Why on earth would you post the links to them here?

My advice is to reinstall the OS and move on.

I'm sorry, the forums autoformatted the URLs (I put them there in case anybody recognized one).

Have you tried completely deleting chrome and reinstalling it?

I did, and signed off of Chrome and reset the settings.

I hate to say it but if it's messed up that bad, you may have to wipe the system and re-install everything. That always fixes the problem.
Agreed. Well, almost always. A full wipe and reinstall is the surest way to get rid of a virus, though depending on how much software one uses it can be a hassle.

Remember to copy important data to another medium beforehand, and exercise extreme caution when restoring it. I'd advise not even touching it for a couple of weeks just in case there were new viruses that the scanners need to catch up with, then thoroughly scan any files you want to restore.

Thanks for the help people. I will try a few last ditch efforts like Kapersky before uploading everything important to several random Google drives or dropboxes And reinstalling the OS. Maybe I'll finally get to installing Linux as well.

  • 1 year later...

I have tried to use Kapersky to fix the Chrome problem with esrufbiz redirect but I failed.

I want to know what is going on. Word has come that browser redirect like esurfbiz is not virus so as to can avoid the removal of antivirus programs (see the info).

And resetting hosts file, DNS and registry values may fix the problem. Is it serious?
