x64 Mods

Wow... Really? I feel like we're back on minecrafts forums...

Well, you can't entirely blame them. The forums were inundated with bug reports for the mods that were actually bugs from the highly unstable x64 version. 0.25 just made it worse and would have brought out a new wave of bug reports that weren't bug reports so some of the bigger developers decided to stop it before it started.

That isn't true. All mods "should" work in x64, but mod developers have taken steps to purposely disable it.

Clarification: It is true that all mods "should" work on x64, however, x64 has several bugs of which fully functional mods have a tendency to further destabilized. These bugs are on Unity's part (the game engine software of which KSP runs on), and not on either Squad or the mod authors. Either which way, players have a tendency of blaming the mod, and then the mod authors include code to disable the mod on x64 Windows, simply to eliminate the griping.

As right now, KSP on x64 Windows is unsupported, and is very unstable. KSP x64 on Linux, however, is very stable, and the mods that disable themselves on x64 Windows do not disable themselves on x64 Linux. So if you're a KSP addict, then it pays to install a Linux distro such as Ubuntu or Fedora.

Because KSP Win x64 is incredibly unstable (also in the instance where it works for some (LOL) and not others) and mod authors got blamed for that situation, and instead of sitting still while their work was trashed or being blamed for not working with a completely crap system, they decided to take matters into their own hands because Squad isn't about to remove something they recently added despite it being utterly terrible.

But you knew that.

The only x64 specific mod I'm aware of is Active Texture Management, it has separate versions for both builds.

most of the mods will just work with both builds unless otherwise specified by the authors.

to be honest though, unless you're planning to run dozens of memory hungry mods you will be better off with the x86 version of KSP.

Kerbonauts,

Please remember. Nobody is forcing you install an OS to play KSP. Just like nobody is forcing a modder to do something they don't want to do. If you want the freedom to choose how you run your computer, you should allow people who freely write and give away add-ons the same luxury.

Cheers,

~Claw
