Just me or these forums dying?

Nah, different people are just coming in and older ones are disappearing :)

Half of the people from when I signed up are gone now. Back when *shudders* roleplay and chat threads existed!

Yeah, I "knew" (eh, back when the original Elevator Thread was still open, we had conversations... it was frowned upon by the Great Moderator Vanamonde) a bunch of users from when I joined. They never got more than 50 posts.

Now they're gone. :(

But new people are coming in all the time. I don't think it's dying, we're just in a bit of a lull while everyone plays 0.25 and Real Life Simulator 2014.

I tend to use Reddit more these days, in spite of Reddit's terrible GUI. I wonder if that's a trend amongst longer-term users?

The modding is far lighter-touch, less outright cheerleading, it's easier to spot new emerging mods and (for whatever reason) Squad seem to respond to Reddit commentary/critique more than their own forums.

On another note, every large forum I've ever run or contributed to goes through this sort of existential crisis from time to time. It's usually unfounded.

I am online here almost every day, at least for a post or three... and i see many people that are posting frequently. It has become a little more quiet after .24.2 but that isnt the baddest thing. Sometimes structures simply rearrange.

My own experience with the KSP subreddit has been almost the opposite of what you've described, but I've noticed that trend of Squad seeming to pay more heed to reddit users than around here.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think a couple of very very regular posters have taken sabbaticals. One I can think of off the top of my head used to post on AVERAGE over 10 times a day (4500+ posts in less than a year) yet they have not posted in a month at least.

When the heavy posters take a break it can seem as though the whole forum is dying but it is not, it is just returning to the state before the floodgates opened.

All is good, some people could do with reading the blog on constructive criticism though.

EDIT :

I just had a quick look and it seemed like one big list of posts with no categories, did I miss something?

If you guys want to discuss psychology of why people respond to one thing and not another, I'd recommend that be its own thread entirely. I'm not sure it'll work that well in a forum setting, though, so you might want to even take it up on the IRC at some point.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
