Can someone explain the version jump?

I have been away from the game for a while and when I saw that the version jumped from .25 to .90, I was very confused. Explan plox?

I believe it jumps due to a representative move into a Beta stage. Don't worry, we could still see many updates between .90 and 1.0

The devs said that they weren't sure, but that they would come up with something. Keep in mind: there was a KSP 0.9, way back in the good old days, when the Mun didn't exist and the water was solid... and the version after that was 0.10... and thus I'm inclined to believe that there will be a KSP 0.100.

Version numbers are numbers separated by dots. They are not decimal numbers.

It's because they realized a lot of people get the idea that 0.25 means the game is 25% done, not understanding how version numbers work. So to give the impression that it's almost done they've given it a number that sounds close to 1.0.

Those of us who have followed other in-development games know that there may well be another 20 versions left to go (e.g. Battleships Forever v0.90d, Space Engine 0.9.7.1, Minecraft 1.0.0.12w3m2x5...).

If nothing else, KSP's version number system is still far more meaningful than Firefox's or Chrome's version numbering.

The only meaning of a version number is to be able to tell which version was before and which was after.

Other than that there's nothing.

It does bug me when software is published with a weird version number. I'm a software developer myself (bespoke corporate) and my development version numbers start at 0.01 rather than 0.1. But, as Harvester said: There isn’t a pre-established convention in the software industry on how to increment version numbers, so each studio tends to do it in their own way.

Most seem to do it the wrong way , but that's just my opinion.
