Still waiting for a go/no go from zekew11 on the full ring design. He's pretty busy IRL as I understand it and as always real life comes first, so no ETA on that for the time being.

Made a start on the Ranger texture, and also did a fair bit of re-topology on it to reduce unneeded vertices and bring it more into line with the style of the other parts I've made so far. It'll mean reshaping a couple of parts but nothing too drastic, I'm just keen for the mod to have as little a memory footprint as possible etc. etc.

There's an annoying seam down the middle of the texture at the moment but I think that's to do with the way Blender calculates normal maps, so that should be fixed when a proper normal map's done.

Oh my &@#$ god benjee, that looks awesome.

I agree with xxhanson, some scratches on the RCS blocks would look pretty good.

This is probably fairly necessary. Which parts did you need to change? I'm pretty new to Blender, and I've been trying to do thing like I do in CAD programs. Which doesn't always have the intended effect... I was working on re-scaling the back end (baby has a little too much back) and I'm amazed at how many vertices are in weird places and duplicated and whatnot.

Also benjee? How hard would it be for you to redo the texture if I shorten the back end of the hull?

Well, if you're any good at coding and would like to help me with the landing gear, that's the only thing that I'm having trouble with right now.

Everything needed should be in here:

Blender Files, FBX, Unity files, and game parts directory.

Hi there! I also downloaded your model and i want to order a 3d print of it. I first want to ask for permition before i actually order it, so yeah, can i? BTW really nice model, i like it and cant wait untill the release of the mod :)

Thanks everyone! Credit must go to Shryq fro his fantastic modelling. Got the shapes pretty much spot on as far as I can see.

Shryq, I think it'd be easier if I made any modifications now, since I've retopologised it and UV unwrapped it. All I've changed really was just neatening up the mesh, getting rid of N-gons and reducing polys where they aren't needed. Getting neat topology helps to keep the normals looking smooth, I'm no expert in it but I find it kind of fun to work out ways of linking all the vertices together (maybe I'm just weird hahah). You can kind of see some of the changes I made around the windows here - it's by no means perfect but I think I managed to keep all your original shapes the same:

I started drooling, that looked so good.

Today I learned... I guess that's why the wings are pointed up like that?

And if you're talking about the "crease" that you can see here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/113879533@N02/15557580519/in/set-72157648782189217 I just thought it was an air intake. Where did you learn about this?

And no, at least not right now. I want to get everything working on a base level before I start adding any bells or whistles. That would be a really cool function though.

And it flies well enough without it, for the time being. http://i.imgur.com/GpsJcOg.jpg

I learned about that by watching the movie several times (I noticed something odd and wanted to see what it was), and I go to an aerospace college, so I asked one of the professors about the shape. It's an ideal control-surface, as the shovel-nose can not only help control pitch via that control surface (as it changes the center of lift very quickly due to it's size), but if it was also able to retract-extend, then the overall airflow around the vessel could be controlled, allowing for greater efficiency at super/hyper-sonic flight velocities, such as those needed to reach orbit (and often experienced during re-entry).

This will be the most epic ksp mod EVER.

Can you guys invite people to do a full mod in which there's a wormhole over Jool, and if you go through it it'll take you to the new galaxy?

I would help but i've got no experience in modding or anything related :( That'll be waay too epic

@xxhansonmaxx That looks great! Does anyone know how much it takes to add those custom IVA screens that show fuel, docking alignment, camera feeds etc? I think that would go a long way to making the cockpit feel more immersive.

I believe this is a good bit closer to the size of the rear end of the ranger. And feel free to edit any parts you think need a change, esp the docking port and vertical engines. Could you then send me any models you change so I have them when making the parts?
