So notch has tweeted about KSP a few times, along with a yogscast member. These events caused a lot of new members, good and bad. Some stayed, and some left, but it overall improved KSP\'s fan base.

Yesterday, Notch finally officially revealed his new game, '0x10^c'. Yes. That\'s the name. he registered the domain: www.0x10c.com

Obviously this name doesn\'t roll off the tongue if you pronounce 'zero \'x\' ten to the see'. But notch hasn\'t mentioned the 'correct' way to say it.

The 'problem' is that this is a space game. Where you are in an alternate universe, where you can 'Seamlessly [land] on planets.' If we\'ve learned anything form minecraft, It\'s that nobody for the rest of our life will be able to make a sand'box'-style game without being accused of 'copying minecraft.' (terraria, et al)

Well, I feel like I\'m writing a paper with all the quotes and citations, so feel free to discuss more casually about 0x10^c

sounds more like EVE meets Starflight, it doesn\'t seem very 'simmish' in the way KSP is.

Gotta say though, that backstory and setting is extremely depressing; sleeping for 281 Quadrillion years, to wake up just in time for the end of the universe.

Yeesh.

No joke!

'a universe on the brink of extinction, with all remote galaxies forever lost to red shift, star formation long since ended, and massive black holes dominating the galaxy. '

I thought it was KSP-like at first, but I haven\'t read too much into the game besides it\'s in space, and he wants there to be electricity to power items on-board.

I don\'t think it\'s meant to be too much like KSP at all. Perhaps inspired from KSP, but not like it.

KSP will definitely be more simmish as someone above noted.

I also think Mods in KSP will go above and beyond 0x10^c

Maybe not though. I just remembered that each vessel in 0x10^c is a fully functioning 16bit processor

The game is still very early in development, but here is a list of things we hope to include:

Hard science fiction.

Lots of engineering.

Fully working computer system.

Space battles against the AI or other players.

Abandoned ships full of loot.

Duct tape!

Seamlessly landing on planets.

Advanced economy system.

Random encounters.

Mining, trading, and looting.

Single and multi player connected via the multiverse.

Bolded are similarities to KSP, the rest seems different but nevertheless extremely enticing, at least to me.

I do have reasons to believe that Notch has lost all sense of originality and is resorting to copying other indie games.

The sad part of this is that the indie games that notch copyed from will be blamed for copying notch.

My prediction will come true.

When was anything ever fully original? The broad idea catches a few other games, although the certain scope of the game is not actually like any other out there.

0X10c is the game I\'ve been waiting my whole life for. Specifically, it\'s these parts that I\'m most looking forward to:

  • [li]Hard science fiction.[/li]
    [li]Fully working computer system.[/li]
[li]Space battles against the AI or other players.[/li]
    [li]Abandoned ships full of loot.[/li]
    [li]Seamlessly landing on planets.[/li]
    [li]Advanced economy system.[/li]
    [li]Random encounters.[/li]
    [li]Mining, trading, and looting.[/li]
[li]Single and multi player connected via the multiverse.[/li]

That\'s not the full list of things he put on the site, just the ones I\'m excited for.

Does 'sense of originality' really even mean anything anymore? I guarantee you and will even be willing to bet money (lots of it) on the fact that everything that you thought was original that was created in the last three decades definitely has ideas rooted in earlier work. I guarantee that with a confidence level of 110%.

I seem to be spoilt with space-based games at the moment

Kerbal Space Program is in development

FTL is in Development

Notch has confirmed he has something in development

And from the rumours, Valve may or maynot be making their very own spacegame

What kind of rumours?

I know that X-COM is coming back. From Firaxis. Really looking forward to that (and I didn\'t even play the first one)
