Add "Warp to" Button when right-clicking on Orbit (in addition to "Add Maneuver")

Recommended Posts

Basically, as the title says: when right clicking on the orbital trajectory in the map view, two buttons should appear: "Add Maneuver" (which currently exists) and "Warp to" (which is new). Clicking "Warp to" would warp vehicle to the point on this trajectory (assuming trajectory doesnt pass through atmospheres or planets/moons etc...). I think this should be possible since the way KSP works when on rails is by calculating positions at time t rather than integrating. Thus, the points before the desired point need not be simulated.

The way i see it, there are a few main advantages:

(1) This ability would make transfers to Jool (and the additional gas giant planets when they are added) instantaneous; at present, even using 100,000x takes a few minutes of real-life time to get out there, and I assume the dev's dont want to add a 1,000,000x button...

(2) It would make time-warping past maneuver nodes easily avoidable (instead of manually time-warping to a maneuver node, you simply click on a point sufficiently before the node, and click "warp to".

(3) It would allow SOI changes to not lose precision (since current patched-conic values would be used exactly)

That's a neat idea. What's more, it would probably add a whole new world of glitches if used correctly in unintended ways (I'm sure there would be ways...) and along with other glitches, for example when the map mode doesn't predict a SOI change that is going to happen.

Have some rep.

Thanks for the praise/rep!

In general, i dont think the potential for new glitches should impede a suggestion, otherwise, no suggestions should be implemented :sticktongue:

This is fairly close to the auto-warp features of Mechjeb...which I use regularly. So, yes, good idea.

It is similar to what MechJeb only insofar as they both have to do with time warping and are ways to prevent time-warping past maneuver nodes or SoI changes; otherwise, it is completely different and a novel idea, i think.

It is a way for Squad to improve their current GUI/environment (without needing to add a new window to clutter the screen): just like you can click anywhere on the trajectory to add a maneuver, so too you can click anywhere on the trajectory to warp there.

This adds many other benefits besides, as listed in original post as well.
