Real Solar System - Community Science Logs

Greetings!

Have you ever wished there were more science to be done in the Real Solar System? Well wish no longer! Biomes for all worlds currently mapped in-game have been made, and now all we need to do is add messages to the science!

Adding a message is very simple, you can do it in X easy steps:

  1. Go to this link
  2. Pick your planet, biome, condition, and experiment
  3. Write an entry!
  4. Click Submit

And you're done! Now click submit a new entry and do it again, because there are a whole lot of biomes, experiments, and planets to do.

If you want to see the current progress, check out this spreadsheet (note the tabs at the bottom take you to entries for other planetary systems)

Now hop to it! There's science to be done!

Here's the biome maps with legends for reference (Only half have legends made yet, I'll make the rest tomorrow night. Other biome maps can be found in GameData/CustomBiomes):

Biome Maps

Examples to help you get started:

We’re looking for a good balance of hard science and fun humor and quips. Remember, these reports are ostensibly made by scientists, astronauts, or engineers, who have a knack for terrible jokes but also want to accurately report their findings.

Earth - Space Low Above [] - Crew Report

It appears your capsule-mate has brought along a sandwich. The crumbs float about the cabin in the microgravity, and ground control scolds you both for bringing extra mass along. “It was a thought, at least†“Not a very good one†“Want some corned beef?â€Â.

Jupiter - Flying High - Great Red Spot - Atmosphere Analysis

It turns out there’s not much here, just Hydrogen, Helium, and a tiny bit of Methane. And a whole lot of wind.

Earth - Space Low Above [] - Bio Sample

The mice are still alive, with relatively normal heartrates. Best return them soon.

Earth - Flying High - Grasslands - Temperature Scan

Above the grasslands, there's a clear break in atmospheric composition at about 50km, with the temperature, which had been rising in the stratosphere, now beginning to drop again; this layer has been termed the mesosphere.

Yes I did wish there was more science is RSS! I can do it in X easy steps!? Count me in!! And I'm done!

Edit: The biome map is a little confusing. Can you add the planet names on to each image if possible?

Heh, the X is an amusing typo. I think I'll leave it for the time being.

On Biome maps, I agree, I'll put that in tonight when I finish making legends for all of them.

Yes, the main idea is it should be, for the average RO player, (1) interesting and (2) not jarring (i.e. does not ruin suspension of disbelief, does not feel out of place in the real universe, etc.).

Humor per se is fine; humor in the stock ~lolsokerbal~ mode is jarring.

It might be helpful to alter the google form to allow submitting for multiple biomes at once. Many readings will be universal, especially for in space high. That would speed up the whole process greatly.

Alternatively someone would have to go through in the end and copy stuff around.

And is the Geiger Counter the X-Ray Diffraction Scan?
