0.9 Campaign. I need tips from the pros!

Recommended Posts

Yeah, this 2 contracts at a time stuff is busting my chops. All this new career stuff is. KSP just got real tedious, but it's great at the same time! It feels more like a real game now.

You know "great" and "tedious" are contradictory terms right? I think "more work" would be a better term :P

I do love the new stuff though, minor annoyances aside :)

A Rocomax 48-7S, soon as it is available, is the most efficient early on power for those probes. If a contract shows up for a LV-1 liquid fueled engine, grab it to take advantage of using them in the final stage of a long range probe. Just keep in mind that the Stayputnik no longer contains an SAS, so you will either need to add the small SAS to the payload, or use a probe core you have unlocked that has that feature still built in.

1) The "small SAS" is no such thing. It's a reaction wheel; it provides torque, not SAS.

2) You do need some torque, though, and the Stayputnik hs none. So, yeah, add the small reaction wheel or some RCS.

3) Although it's nice to have, you don't need SAS. Keep it on target manually. Spin stabilisation can be helpful.

The moment where you unlock the first probe core and the first solar panels is where career mode gets pretty easy. Satellites are super cheap to launch to anywhere in the kerbal system and the missions give big payouts and even science. Also you can do them (except for the minmus satellites) without any building upgrades. So science is actually really important.

One of these days I'm gonna grow a pair and send dudes out of Kerbin's SOI!

You should at least go to Duna for the giggles :P

I remember the first time I tried to land on it, I just sent a 3-man capsule with a parachute and no way to get home. Right up until 500m above the terrain I thought for sure the parachute just wasn't going to work; I was still coming in at well over 400m/s after a gradual descent, then suddenly BAM: the parachute brought it down to a "safe" landing velocity just before it hit the ground. That's probably my fondest memory of KSP to be honest

:D

Don't click the spoiler if you want to go to Duna without knowing what to expect :)

The tutorial challenge on normal mode is already getting to be hard due to the need to upgrade structures for missions beyond Kerbal's orbit. The limitation, earning funds and the new limitations on the Stayputnik's ability to control probes.

Just be brave. Send out really small lightweight probes with the basic science devices you currently have. Keep them small and your launch costs will be manageable. The science you get in return will be good.

Remember, "early career" benefits from small lightweight everything.
