What parts need to be in the game before it is complete?

Fishinferno, this is a very good thread to keep updated with all the suggestions in the OP. It goes well with the (currently) sticky thread I'm maintaining because techtree balance depends a lot on the available parts. Will you please consider keeping a running summary in the OP?

The most meaningful part I can think of is KAS

Except that it is not a part, but the mere ability to place Strut would justify Engineer being part of any mission.

You don't even need to make a special box for it in fact. It could be stored in capsule/docking-ensemble part.

Edit : thinking about it... didn't the Devs actually planned long ago to have toolbox but didn't put them because X feature were missing to justify its existence ?

The game needs more solid rockets. The current SRB-KD-25K is too weak for lifting Shuttles, SLS cores, or large payloads of any kind. A decent Shuttle SRB would be very useful, and not without historical precedent. After all the NASA Space Shuttle launched with two SRBs, not dozens of them!

Just add these mods' functionality into the stock game:

Editor Extensions, Tweakscale, Tweakable Everything, Kerbal Engineer, Quick Search, Atmospheric Trajectories, Stage Recovery, Crowdsourced Science, Docking Port Alignment, Filter Extensions, Science Alert

and add these mods' parts and functionality to the stock game:

Infernal Robotics, KAS, MK2 Essentials, Nebula EVA Handrails

Optical space telescope parts. No space program without Hubble!

Robotic arms of some kind.

(These things are really 'iconic' for space-flight so should really be added stock before KSP 1.0)

extremely complicated and frustrating unless you give a GUI to go with it (just keeping thing in mind).

How else would you control it? Even hotkeys I could learn, just as docking with "wasd ijkl hn" is second nature to me now.

This is turning into quite the list as well. Looks like Active Texture Management needs to be integrated into stock. :wink:

I agree with most of the suggestions here (except for the gargantuan part sizes in the OP :rolleyes:). One thing I'd like to see is some mk2 engines and a mk3 tri engine mount for 1.875m engines. Also agree with a 2.5m SRB. The current 1.25m shuttle one looks weird with the 3.75m NASA tanks if you ask me...
