Just sharing an early concept of a 100% stock very tiny and light mechanism for switching VTOL to Jet mode (45° rotation);

Only downside is engine will flameout while performing the switch, but it's done quickly so no big deal.

Rep me if you like this!!

That's interesting man. Have you tried it with a jet engine? See if you can make the hinge narrower too and you could be on to something.

Thanks!

This will work well with any engine up to 2tons I'd say, you just have to precisely place the 2 plug on the CoM of the rotating part, also the solar pannels need to be at a precise diameter for optimal movement..

Actually a heavier engine makes the hinge stabler. You may need to scale SAS module up though.

But the 3 FLA10 white adapter are just for show actually ^^' they don't do anything, and the upper metal plates aren't really useful either, they just add more mass to the whole thing so less glitchy

I don't undestand how you can get the parts on both sides like that. I am thinking of using something similar for my own design.

Edit: So I was able to replicate your hinge; now I just need to find a way to give it more power and I am good to go!

There's probably several working ways to do it, I choosed 12 (2x6) solar pannels in radial because it matches with the electricity generator number of polygons, the trick to build the complete hinge is to place the solar pannels on a single decoupler first, then select it and use mirror symmetry to double it, but it looks like you figured that out already!

It seems to rotate well on the gif what's the power issue?, you can always try to add more SAS at the tip or also move the rotating point closer to the center of mass of the rotating mass to gain better response

Btw what are you going to build with it?

Heh, yeh, I figured it out once I realized what the solar panels were doing :P. I wanted to build a little door that opens and closes on the APC. However, I decided that it wasn't really all that nescessary so I sumarily abandoned that approach. Still, wonderful little hinge you have discovered here. I assume it would have many, many different uses, just none that I would think of using atm.

Thank you, someone tried to build a Dynasphere with this hinge, I guess it has potential lol

A LV1R engine + langing gear combo might be better suited for your APC though, because it require less space, or even a simple antenna DTS-M1.
