Very nice...i wonder what the burn data would be if i were doing rss/ro combo...

Thanks, next time i get on, i'll slap some parachutes on the sides of the cargo bay (for emergency purposes), stick,two,kerbals in, and try for orbit again. Then use this chart to, try and return.

And document the main parts of the Nimoy's voyage.

I think this shuttle is the best on the forum (No offense, Shuttle makers! Your shuttles are great, too!) so far. It's the little things that make this great - Launch Towers, Astrovans, Satellites readily on hand - Even a working tower elevator! I am breathless to say how much I am amazed by your work. If there was a Shuttle I'd pick to become stock, it would be this - It's easy enough for people new to KSP to fly, detailed enough to match the real Space Shuttle, and not only that - you actually have satellite subassemblies compatible with the shuttle!

This is something I'd honestly pay for to use. Well, the least I can do is give the little I have as rep. Marvelous! :D

EDIT: I just realized that it practically said everything that was in your introduction.. :(

Pathfinder is a good shuttle name.

In case you didn't know (or if anyone reading this didn't) Pathfinder was one of the STAs used during development and wears the designation OV-098. She has been preserved and now lives at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. I agree that it's a fitting name.

As for me, I would like to thank you for schooling me on shuttle construction. Yours is literally the first .craft I have flown that I didn't create myself and I've learned a great deal from it. My first launch of your craft to 100KM went without a hitch and the ship is both docile and hugely manouverable. It's an absolute delight and easy to understand, and since I'm lazy I tried it with Mechjeb. It launched with no problems, which was a huge surprise.

I've never landed a spaceplane though, so stand by for Jeb-level explosions. ;)

As for the name, my STS-1 is being flown by the "Elizabeth". STS-2 will be flown in a few minutes time by "Myshka".

:Edit: it turns out in stock that you can get to about 150KM with the default fuel. That feels about right. But I wish I hadn't put my refuelling space station at 350KM for the sake of time warp! I'll play and see if I can get your shuttle that high...

@kSC mISSION cONTROL:

Lolz all da shutle go grond

@Ksc Mission Control:

Sorry for the post under a similar name to our account, don't worry, all our shuttles are ok. The launch of Exevor has been postponed indefinitely due to computer failure.

@DMSP:

Guys, I think I just lost my Ksp... So much darn work, 2 years. I was gonna back it up tonight and then my Cpu failed. I had so many cool things and bases... If my computer turns out busted, I'll start over and make a Youtube series...

Thank you! Yes this shuttle was designed to be the best of all worlds. It is truly designed on the backs of all shuttles before it. Naito and Westi deserve the most credit for letting me use their ideas and improve upon them.

Good info, and thanks for flying an STS! Good feedback too. More fuel will take you higher. Most payloads will only require you to fill the central ET tank. 200km operations are normal with it. Oh and post a shuttle pic to register your shuttle name.

Oh noes! I hope your drive is still accessible. Intrepid was originally doomed until Claw made InFlightShipSave. Hoprfully you haven't lost your data. Youtube would be nice regardless!

I like you and what you've given us. Your Shuttle is so accessible and I'm throwing them up to 120, 150, 200 KM as test articles. Just practicing, but they're so easy to handle.

I'm on a different computer at the moment, but I promise to show me flying your ship.

And I will absolutely send you pics of me docking with my space station once I manage it.

hmmm...I was looking at the pictures I put up for my Phoenix Launcher and just found the perfect mission to use your shuttle with (after all test flights of course, of course)! Space station building. For example, a dedicated docking adapter for the space shuttle and any other crew ships, of course!

Oh, and the Nimoy is going to have a slight tail variation from your Intrepid (going to add a permanent SILTS pod to the tip of the tail similar to that of Columbia), the rest of the fleet will lack this (no names have been selected for the remaining 5 shuttles in the fleet...yet)

Class name, Nimoy?

yes, I am only giving the Nimoy the SILTS pod since it is, essentially, the test vehicle, the birds following it, will lack that pod. The other vehicles will be following the look of the Intrepid more than the Nimoy (I wish I could adjust the mass of the shuttles so they have different mass on empty weight...)

May I ask how you would feel if I replaced your ET with one from necrobones Fuel tank mod?

Combined this with IR and KAS for Kanadarm, then added Lazor System and Robotic Arms pack and built the ISS. Looked super cool but I accidentally deleted the save. Will do it again and post a pic. Great craft!

Super cool!

This is amazing. I'm having so much fun with this shuttle.

I am running into one small problem consistently though (and I am fully prepared to learn that I am doing something asinine): I can't seem to get the RCS systems on the MMUs to work (the ones included in the Operations Module). I load a kerbal into the seat and decouple from the shuttle, and nothing. I can control my attitude via the reaction wheel in the probe core (at least I assume that's how I'm doing it), but the RCS is doing nothing.

Things I know or have tried:

(1) RCS is on (I'm dumb, but not that dumb)

(2) Plenty of monopropellant (haven't been able to use any!)

(3) Both MMUs with multiple kerbals

(4) Refocused on multiple vessels (worth a shot)

(5) Returned to space center and then back to ship (also worth a shot)

(6) Load a new ship and launch all over again -- same result

Also potentially worth noting is that the right-click menu for the kerbal seems to still be the EVA one (e.g. has "EVA Report" as an option) while he is sitting in the MMU seat. I don't have enough experience with the command seat to know if this is out of the ordinary.

any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Have you checked that the mono prop tanks are not forbidden? Go into the right-click menu of the monoprop tank, and check if there is a little red X to the right of the resource bar. If there is, click it, and it should turn into a green check. After you re-dock with the shuttle, make sure to change it back to an X if you're going to be using shuttle RCS, it would be mildly unpleasant to undock, then find you have no monoprop in the tanks :)

Thanks Hobbes, spot on.

TeeJay, I should probably have disabled RCS too on the MMUs for the same reason that they not interfere with shuttle ops, but I'll prob do that next update.

All,

I have finalized the STS ranks for the STS challenges. The idea is that there are five missions, and several bonus abort missions for Commander level ratings. Each mission earns you a patch, and another mission earns you a star. I hope to make this fun as well as challenging, and epic. :) Ranks follow Mission Specialist>Pilot>Commander in order of proven skill ability.

-DMSP save 1 unsigning off! I got lucky, my computer turned on for two minutes, I got all my files off, unplugged the thumb-drive, and my computer crashed. (I am doing this on my phone)
