[Technical] Is Anti-aliasing really necessary for the new highlight effect?

has anyone done any tests with the in game antialiasing versus the control panel method?

at the moment I have mine set to enhance in the control panel and FXAA turned on and AA turned off in the KSP launcher but I've not done enough testing with both to know if it performs better or not.

The shader responsible for the edge highlighter has a bug that can cause awfulness when AA is turned off.

So, the shader gets turned off when AA gets turned off. At least for now, anyway.
