So, there I was. Accepting a contract to build an outpost around Eve.

Only to find some overlooked text (when I was already in the VAB) about the outpost needing be build 'into' a newly discovered E-class asteroid :sealed:

Whut?!?!? Are you serious?!?!? I cannot discover asteroids around Eve!

How should I ever manage to fly an Armageddon type of behemoth rock from Kerbin to earth?

Heh, yeah, the game is evil sometimes...

Also, how are you getting to Earth? :P

Could be worse. Could be a contract to test a Launch Stability Enhancer in orbit...

Contracts aren't missions. They aren't guaranteed to pay more than they cost, they're not even guaranteed to be possible. Selecting the right contracts to ensure maximum profit is a big part of career mode.

Putting an asteroid into orbit around Eve or Duna isn't that difficult. The basic steps:

Meet it in solar orbit. There's a tutorial on that.

Make a course correction so it gets a gravity assist from Kerbin into an Eve/Duna-crossing orbit.

If needed, make a course correction at the intersect so you get an encounter in a few orbits time.

Aerocapture into Eve/Duna orbit.

For an E-class you will want a good sized tug. With nuclear engines, I reckon 100-200 tons of fuel would be about right. Compared to what some people shove asteroids around with that's actually not too bad.

I strongly recommend Precise Node for any kind of gravity assist work.

Well. it's a challenge. But probably not a very profitable one... :(
