  1. I have a bug, i'm doing this rescue mission right, then i get there and this is there http://imgur.com/gallery/6MxnW and the victim i'snt there! any idea on a fix? if i remove the addon or rename the item it simply doesnt load the ship. WOOOOOOOOOO "fixed it" i renamed "ker.shelter" to "mk1pod"!!
  2. Yeah must be a bug from a mod, looks like a rover escape pod thing :'( Reckon i should delete them all and try and fix it or ignore it and move on to the next contract? My fear is that this will be a repeating bug and i havent unlocked the easy intercept thing from mechjeb yet :'( Perhaps I could copy a paste of the note book thing that has the craft in it and someone could help me fix it? Found the mod, KER redux i think, its a ker.shelter anyway http://imgur.com/gallery/6MxnW
  3. I've got within a few meters of the craft I'm meant to be picking the person up from, used " [ " to select the other ship and no one's in it. Is this a bug, is he in my ship automatically, it's an orange thing called debris. The persons not trackable in the tracking station which I'd of thought it would be. Sorry if this has been asked, I did look, it's my first mission the first time playing career. I've hit f5 and had to pop out so no screen shots or anything yet. YouTube makes it look like they're meant to be sat in the ship waiting. I don't have any life support mods.
  4. It was limited to match 2.02 at the height it flew at where the engines were efficient. With different engines and fueling, say the sabre engine, it could get more height so less air resistance which means less heat so more speed to keep the temperature at or more importantly below 127c. You guys know this, why am I having to point it out? It'll only go mach 25 in the outer atmosphere, till then it will be accelerating and keeping its speed (therefore) heat low enough that it won't blow up. Also I believe we have materials now that can cope with more heat and can be cooled better using similar tech as applied to concorde. specifically moving it's fuel around the craft ro maintain a certain temperature.
  5. Skylon is the successor of hotol as much as steam trains are the successor of steam pumps. The Great Britain is the successor to modern metal ships. Without hotol you cant design skylon, if you look at Skylon on its own it looks like some ludicrous dream. When you look at how it's been developed from hotol it all makes more sense. When you look at previous work the designers did at bae, the mod etc (some say coincidentally not on concorde) it all makes the design much more practical. For example; "we want a plane that can get across the commonwealth very fast" = concorde "wouldn't it be good if we could get things in to space on a plane instead of a rocket" = hotol "what do we need to make an ssto" "well a supersonic plane capable of lifting lots of weight, decent engines, the heating and cooling is an issue too" "well just 5-10 years ago I was working on concorde that has lots of lift, supersonic, heating and cooling stages" "Perhaps an air breathing engine, one that basically burns the oxygen, nitrogen and stuff already in the air" "we don't have the tech for that" This idea then developed in to sabre as it was not practical. same reason they got rid of a slingshot take off for hotol to vet it up to speed where the original design of engine would work.
  6. It says that the major issue with hotol development was it's engines, which Alan Bond had patented and then formed reaction engines Ltd to continue the development of to continue the project. Indeed none the technology from bae went to Skylon. Alan Bond was working for the atomic energy authority.....on a space plane.....in the 1980s...... Incidentally this doesn't question an airframe, these people from bae, military, the government etc, in the 1980s, just after concorde had gone in to service. An airframe capable of low speed and high speed flight, high altitude flight, several cooling and heating cycles. Remind me the issues with an ssto apart from the engines, fuel and therefore delta v? An airframe capable of high speed, high altitude flight, capable of surviving heating cycles right? Must be a coincidence...... It mentions hotol here too https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skylon_(spacecraft) Here Alan Bond specifically says he developed Skylon from from hotol http://www.wired.co.uk/article/skylon-alan-bond Don't worry I won't bring up the a2 sst either (yet) Oh yeah, Saturn V and the V-2, you ever heard of this guy https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wernher_von_Braun
  7. The sense of "this is how it should be done" or "this is how I'd do it", granted playing in science mode as I've only had it a week is a bit of a cheat but ah well
  8. this is an article that states that hotol is Skylon https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/secret-files-reveal-us-interest-in-uk-hotol-spacepla-322955/ for example the r n d development officer to the cabinet stating; " the HOTOL engine as "ingenious" and "based on a secret patent awarded to Alan Bond of the UK [Atomic Energy Authority] Culham Laboratory". As for concorde being hotol I'll have to find it later while I try and take my space station to duna, I have 2000dv but it weighs 200tons
  9. My point is that concorde was a test-bed for tech needed to develop a ssto later called hotol, now called Skylon. Everyone seems to find this hard to believe for some reason. How else we would of tested delta wings, fly by wire, heat cycles, fueling, advanced materials, all the other things, in the 60s I have no idea though.
  10. It's first flight was '69 introduced in '76 they stopped building them in '79 because they didn't have anymore customers. This is also the date they stopped modifying it except for minor alterations. Furthermore everyone was pulled off concorde to hotol at this point as concorde was working fine, the delta wing air frame was fine, the fly by wire worked (you're welcome), so did a lot of the other concepts I had no part in.
  11. The difference between 2500 and 25000 is a question of altitude when it comes to sstos like Skylon and planes like concorde, it's why concorde flew so very high compared to what we had and have. It was a design the Americans gave sud https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concorde yes it's Wikipedia but it's cited and I know it as a fact. None of the airlines today use that configuration because they prefer designs that are less risky and can take more people for less cost. They had a computer to check some of the math but it wasnt capable of any more then that. They needed to test how a larger supersonic plane would work. Everyone always says how uneconomical it was, in its lager years it was profitable. not as profitable as larger slower planes but it was making a profit. It was so tiny didn't fit very well at 6'4, luckily I was only on it for a few hours to New York hehe
  12. Concorde used the engines from the tsr2 which was originally designed for the vulcan bomber. Why would they design an engine that would be shared between military and commercial planes. The requirements would be completely different. The engine was horrendously greedy on fuel and the plane had to sit with it brakes on even at idle, a silly engine to use. So design a new one right? Everything else is being designed new. Now picture concorde with better engines designed for it and it is an ssto space craft. Also the infamous picture of concorde as a prototype of being used as a hotol prototype design with its delta wings (which hotol now doesn't have). It was officially designed from 1965-1970, started flying in 1979 (which is when design was actually pretty much finished) then hotol officially started design in 1980. The French got the designs because the Americans gave them to them not because the British shared. However the funding from the French was nice. Hotol was canned because of pressure and threats from America who also hated concorde (gotta love the special relationship). Concorde has not been surpassed by any plane at the moment for speed and it's design, we have nothing like it anymore. Now days they have better materials and IT after 30 years of extra development on the control systems but nothing really ground breaking. They all share the same basic airframe and have similar engines, its the same as cars. Concorde was designed with the most basic computers too (another genius share with the American). You have to trust the conspiracy theories here, this is a time where the post office tower (one of the tallest buildings in London at the time) didn't officially exist and mi6 was not based in the building on James Bond.
  13. Hmmm I'll concede no carbon fibre but they did want different engines and it was a test bed, it was part of the hotol project. Alan Bond and a load of others working for reaction engines worked on concorde. They've said they had problems getting the designs for concorde because they're still a state secret (or wee)
  14. Well my dad said the couldn't develop the air breathing engines (which are now sabre) as they knew they didn't have the materials, carbon fibre was the best they managed. Concorde was so far ahead of its time....
  15. Is this thread to old to bring up again, I have a valid point to make. Concorde was phase one of hotol (now named Skylon), what has held Alan Bond etc up is the top secret parts of concorde design. So let's see if we can find a relatively large craft that can travel supersonic as a test bed for the sabre engine. Maybe one that's very reliable, maybe only ever 1/2 crashes in 30ish years No one ever though it was weird how the engines concorde had looked really out of place (they were just taken off a fighter jet and bolted on)
  16. I'd like something to help rovers on minmus, I keep crashing them under braking and turning, something that uses the rcs maybe. I know you can leave it on but doesn't work very well. Oh oh oh better idea! Eva suit/assist, playing with konstruction, ksa and ksi (kas and ksi, you get what I mean) has given me the idea of some kind of alien style mech suit for the kerbal to eva in. 3 or 4 grabber arms, maybe a winch with a harpoon. would be awesome and help me to no end making things. perhaps it could use the ladder system to attach itself to the station/ship too?
  17. It highlights red if it can't attach, a blueish green if it can and yellow if you're out of range Would he nice to know what can and can't attached to what, I keep having issues with the konstruction docking ports fixing to things
  18. I love this app A question, is there an app that allows me to use this one to breed myself kerbals? I saw an app somewhere but no idea where or what it was called, I've only had the game a few days. My next step is to launch an operation to a local planet after 4 lifts to minmus and 6+ to the mun. Would be nice to send a few to the planet and have them breed some more. Maybe make a ship or two but I'm not sure on that one
  19. Wobbly ships is my major thing. i have a habit of tall rockets qnd they go all floppy Then there's the fail designs, launching a station with 4 lifts and forgetting the power, an antenna, solar panel that kinda thing
