  1. I meant whatever part of the module which triggers the change of weight.
  2. The other thing to keep in mind is that thermocouples generate heat as part of their process. You can't just run waste heat through it and turn it into power, you get some free power, and some more heat to radiate away. Useful if you need to keep something warm, less so in space.
  3. Hi guys! I am interested if anyone has developed, or is interested in developing, a mod that automatically adjusts the mass of the command pods based on the number of kerbals occupying them. (Possibly also the number of 'sample survey' datas stored within it also?) As it currently stands, the EAS-1 chair is the only part which changes mass, perhaps the coding for that effect could be "Module Manager"ed onto the other pods? Thanks for consideration, Sam Edit: *Aqua* has kindly coded a plugin based on my request. Thread is here.
  4. Slight necro, but I am still interested in seeing the rest of your work!
  5. Hi gang! I was recently reading through some of Scott Manley's recent tweets and came across one that stated that Vandenburg is where the US launches most of its polar satellites from. I was a bit surprised to discover this, as I thought that you would want a launch site as far from the equator as possible, to minimise siderial velocity (as you are launching north or south, the eastward rotation would need to be annuled), however Vandenburg is in California, one of America's southernmost states. Is my initial hypothesis wrong, or does the annulment of the rotational speed not matter as much as I thought?
  6. My main issue with this is Occam's razor. This potentially explains one slightly anomalous feature, while raising dozens of additional problems which would need answering. Essentially, Mars's composition (iron-rich rocky planet, limited water) indicates it was most likely formed within the 'inner' solar system (planets out by Jupiter tend to be either icy moons or gas giants). Mars is far, far larger than any of the moons currently orbiting the gas giants (50% bigger than Ganymede), and it only has a tenuous atmosphere. Mars has a higher density (3.93 g/cm3) than the large moons such as Ganymede (1.94 g/cm3) or Titan (1.88 g/cm3) There are no object approaching Mars's size past Mars orbit, save the gas giants. Are you suggesting Mars was formed as a standalone planet out there? Why didn't it get a hydrogen atmosphere? Are you suggesting Mars was once a moon of one of the other planets? Why is it so much bigger than the other moons? Are you suggesting Mars was formed at the L4/L5 point for Jupiter? What caused that much mass to coalesce there? Why does it have the hallmarks of being 'formed' in the inner solar system? How did it get out of the lagrange point? It takes billions of years for a planet to form and cool enough to have surface features that are not plastic, what caused the jump from the previously stable position. As your posit replaces one simple question with multiple, much harder questions, Occams razor states its probably not the case.
  7. Alright, so i'm back again. What can I say, the Dog & Booster serves good beer. This one is a little different in design, i wanted to have some heavily (swept? canted? bent?) wings. For no reason, i called the design shape "starscream mk2".
  8. I was hoping for full IVA (Mk1 inline is beyond a joke by now) and Gas Giant 2 before this was announced. Perhaps i've been playing too long, but the Kerbol system is a bit... bare.
  9. Isn't Deimos meant to have a lot of ice, and be deorbiting slowly anyway? Perhaps speed the descent along, get some nice heating effects & liquid water..
  10. I have an emergency return system for my kerbals, which I used on my "Eve Rocks" challenge. Because ion engines were nerfed, and now only need 8 power, you can supply that with 2 1x6 panels now at Eve or closer to the sun, and adding an extra .7 tons to the pod (including a chute) gives it >6k dV. That's enough juice to get a Kerbal home from ANYWHERE. I've used a little bit of fuel in that shot, it started with about 6808 dV. Interestingly enough, still enough TWR to land on many moons. A barebones version can almost land on the Mun (TWR 1.08)
  11. Are there any earthian plants or algae that can survive the martian temperatures? Like, arctic stuff?
  12. I recommend downloading Dropbox. It's free, uploads your stuff to the cloud, and allows you to post links to it. Suffice to say, your pictures are showing as 'expired' currently.
  13. Perhaps just drain a tiny amount of fuel from the stage?
  14. Hi gang! I was just looking at the code for the EAS-1 chair, trying to find the trigger that caused it to change weight (I'm planning to make a module that changes other pods mass depending on kerbal occupancy), but the only thing I can see thats unusual in the pod is "Module = KerbalSeat". Is this what triggers this? Has anyone else played with the concept?
  15. Seriously. This rule makes this less of a challenge than a joke. Just make parts with ridiculous Isp and/or cost values! Can make it into orbit with fuel to spare! Total cost? 21 units. Changing your rules is highly recommended.
  16. Hi there! I would like to request a mod/plugin/whatever that automatically takes screenshots of your craft when certain parameters are met. For example, if you pass 20m above the ground with a vertical velocity exceeding 30ms, there is about to be a big crash, and that would make a good screenshot. Or the first time your craft passes into the sun on its first orbit, or the first time you land on a body in a save, etc etc. Basically, any noteworthy occurance automatically takes a standard Press-F1 screenshot in the normal folder. Perhaps have some options to disallow certain triggers. What do people think?
  17. Wouldn't the perfectly circular orbits of Kerbin and the Mun make initial measurements harder? Like, wasn't the moons libration one of the big hints re: spheres/ellipses?
  18. So, anywhere with the 'mountain' biome in that area, or a specific part of the mountains? Are we allowed to put docking ports on the Mk1-2 pod? Can we see your own attemp?
  19. Struts are physicsless, they add no mass. The thermo generators are the least efficient power generation. Replace them with some '400' batteries (also massless) and add a couple of Gigantor panels. Obv don't open them in atmo, but the jets should help power the ions.
  20. I've been everywhere, man. I found Dres and Eeloo to be a bit pointless, especially since they have no anomalies..
  21. Can you do anything with this one? One of my favourite 'arty' shots.
  22. I liked the barn too. To be honest though, i wouldn't be able to tell you what the current tier 1 buildings looked like: they're too small on the KSC screen, and i never bothered to look when in flight
