  1. I was trying to make one (using 4 engines for thrust) and it could get off the ground fine but it was hard to get it to balance, in the spaceplane hangar it doesn't seem to count rocket engines as thrust when calculating centre of thrust (I wanted to use rocket engines so it could work on other bodies even without an atmosphere. It wasn't moving, so I couldn't make sure it was at the centre of mass. I'm also guessing using some fuel up would change the centre of mass and possibly unbalance it? Also, not sure how to move it around carefully in the direction you want to. Any thoughts? I'm really new to this game and probably punching above my weight by even trying, but hey.
  2. You'd be better off just taking it with you, so you always know where your towel is. You wouldn't want to be caught without one.
  3. Other than reaching a certain length, does it serve a special purpose? Is it a hotel or something?
  4. Are there plans for balloons in the future (as far as I know this is the only method of lighter than air travel so I assume it's what you mean)? Also, what would they use in the ballons? Helium? Hydrogen? Or on a planet like Eve, would simply having a large regular pressure air compartment be enough to provide substantial lift?
  5. I just purchased the full version of this game the other day after playing the demo version for a while. It doesn't run on my computer very well buy I'll probably be getting a new PC sometime before years end. After some practice in the demo I was able to get into orbit with a basic rocket. After getting the full version my first project was to get a crew module for a space station into orbit and returning safely to the ground. I built the module and rocket myself because I think that's much more fun than using the default designs. It took many tries, but I eventually got it into an orbit. However, I wasn't really sure how to circularise it. I have seen a video explaining how to do it with nodes but I must have missed something because a) I don't know how to get it to show me the information on how and when to burn to achieve the projected orbit and I'm not sure how to make the projected orbit circular, it always seems quite off even when I'm using the manouver nodes from the apoapsis. Anyway, I winged it and on second try managed to get an orbit with a periapsis of 82km and an apoapsis of 210. So I was happy with that for a first deployed sattelite (although I think that may be a little decaying, because 80km is still fairly low), and all seemed going well returning but I foolishly time accelerated and my parachute just dissapeared when I was not even going fast (it had already opened up). So my ship crashed and my Kerbal's died. I had forgotten my plan to put 2 of them in the station module before I left for the surface. I'm not sure how to open my solar panels. Apparently there's supposed to be an option to "extend panels" when you right click on them, but mine just say "status: retracted" and won't let me do anything. Anyway, those are just my first experiences. EDIT: Also, I find many of the other player's projects very interesting, I am subscribed to several KSP youtubers.
  6. If space travel ever became an everyday thing, at least going to and from orbit from multiple locations on Earth, I'd imagine spaceplanes would be quite useful in that they can be landed much more easily, safely and in more locations than rockets. Spaceplanes could regularly come down at standard airports, and take off from them too.
  7. You're afraid of fast forwarding a movie in case the people on the TV go out of control and blow up.
  8. Would it make sense if the game is simply set in an alternate universe where the strength of the force of gravity is just a lot higher than ours?
  9. The idea of Laythe as a potential habitat for extrakerbal life sounds very interesting to me. Given how much radiation protection water gives, you could probably build a largely underwater base tethered to the ocean floor in a shallow area and be perfectly comfortable. And from there you could launch a submarine research mission, investigating the oceans and seeing if you could find microbial or even macroscopic life.
  10. Though if this is the case, aren't Kerbals actually about 7.5m tall and thus should be unable to support their own weight, especially their giant heads? EDIT: Oh wait, the measurement thing doesn't change anything at all, the gravity is still in the same units, so whatever it is the planet still has to be impossibly dense.
  11. Yeah, I don't think the launch tower served any purpose, though I believe in real life it's used for getting crew on board? Or is it designed to stabilise the rocket before launch or something? Not sure.
  12. I found it while looking for information on centrifuges as artificial gravity habitats on Google. Came across a forum discussion that had something to do with it and was curious about what people were talking about. Then I realised it was a game.
  13. I know it's tidal locked in the game, this is all what if, but if Laythe did have a significant spin, would my earlier suggestion be possible?
  14. Aw, well that's a bit of a shame. I thought the idea of landing a colony on Laythe or finding some sort of life in it's oceans would be pretty cool...
  15. So it's not possible that the moon could have a strong enough magnetic field to protect it from lethal radiation doses?
  16. This is just a thought and I only have a very basic understanding of planetary physics, but I was thinking Laythe seems pretty far away from the sun considering it's temperature and it has huge unfrozen oceans. Is it possible it has a very active interior which heats it up (and has many underwater geothermal vents heating the oceans) and this also gives it a very strong magnetic field, protecting it from the massive doses of radiation it would get from Jool to some degree?
