  1. Well you are right we can only do missions with the technology we have today. And it would be pointless to sit on our hands as the insights we gain today could be useful if/when we do get other technology. But I do think we should be trying to look at replacements for rockets now even if we wont discover anything for 2 decades or 2 century's. - - - Updated - - - Glad? Why are you glad at set back? Plus what I got from that report is it still looks like a promising route to go down and the technology may just need maturing before anything is tried with SSTO's
  2. Shhhh your not allowed to mention SKYLON or the SABRE engine here according to the poster above you as its just vaporware, proven to be broken and unworkable HAHA There no hope and no future in this evil British invention and and the USAF have it all wrong and we should just give up on it and forget it The technology we have now will be the exact same technology we will have 100 years time and that is the final say! Everyone else are just either children or morons! /sarc - - - Updated - - - By the way I am not standing here promising mars missions, moon bases, colonization, fusion power ,SSTO's or even warp drives . But I am not arrgnat or shortsighted enough to 100% say we wont have them either as I am humble to say we barely know what the next 10 years will hold let alone the next 100. Hell for all we know we may be back in the dark ages after a ELE or Nuclear war!
  3. Looking through that magic Crystal ball of yours again? Wish I could see what technological and political changes could happen next week let alone 100 years time like you! Yes with CURRENT technology we will be be lucky to even get a manned mission to the moon again within the next 50 years. But as we all know technology does not stay static and random things comes up. I wont presume to guess what the next 10 years will bring let alone 100! No one knows if we will achieve a technological break through in energy or propulsion or if the free world will get a great leader who wants to push technology to the brink or a 2nd cold war that forces a 2nd space race. Who knows! I don't. What I do know is that technological, economic and political situation in 100 years times will be vastly different to what it today. The only question is do any of the those changes make space flight cheaper, safer and more desirable ? I don't honestly know. Nor do you.
  4. Manned wise its just not going to happen. I doubt we will even get to mars by 2040. We need some BIG technology breakthroughs in propulsion for beyond mars manned missions to be feasible or worth it.
  5. Yeah but that's logic! Environmentalists don't like people talking logic as its ruined the fun they have moaning and whining of things
  6. NASA should just shut up and finish the projects its working on NOW and get a man to mars. NASA are like a kid with ADD switching from one goal and project to the next one without the attention span to finish anything.
  7. As others have said it would be a very very bad idea. One miscalculation and the station comes crashing down destroying everything underneath like a giant asteroid. It would likely end up a ELE for everything expect a few microbes.

    .

Sounds like blacklight. A scam to part gullible people with there money.
  9. No worries its hard to get meaning sometimes via text online. I agree im pretty skeptical of the EM drive. But I think we are at a point were we need to explore new idea. In the next couple of decades we are going to hit the limit of what chemical rockets can do for manned space flight. That limit will be a short term manned mars mission, anything beyond that will be next to impossible. A mars base will be extremely unlikely due to the sheer logistical costs and so will a moon base probably. As more main stream civilian orbital space flight again forget it unless your extremely rich. Chemical rockets are too slow, too dangerous and most importantly too expensive. I have a few Astrophysicist friends they all have there own opinion on what the next generation of space propulsion will be, but one thing they all agree on is chemical rockets as they are now have nearly reached there limit and we need a alternative. I personally dont think the EM drive will be that alternative (but I hope im wrong) but we need to look. One thing I learned when working in the development side of R&D is when you hit a roadblock and nothing you try seems to go through sometimes you need to be a a bit of a cowboy and use some imagination. - - - Updated - - - People a lot smarter than me and you disagree (IE Mr Hawkins ). We cant wait for a ELE to be almost on top of us before we make that move. We need to start working on it now. It could take a hundred years or more to develop the next generation of space propulsion or it could take the next decade, we dot know. Better to start now than wait until it could be too late.
  10. I know full well what science is and how it is conducted. I'm only a lowly biologist but I know how the scientific method works. If you noticed I underlined the word IF. Even I expect this to fail. It goes against the current laws of known physics so the odds are stacked against it. My point was there are many that think just looking into this is a waste of time. Sometimes you have to look at a few crackpot ideas from time to time especially when chemical rockets are a dead end. If we cant move beyond chemical rockets we may as well just give up now with manned space exploration. And NASA I think understands this hence the funding to look at unusual proposed propulsion methods.
  11. I bet even IF its proven to work the many luddites floating around will shout it down still and demand the project cancelled cause it doesn't fit the current physics model so therefore it cant exist so therefore it should not exist.
  12. I think your mod broken I have OPM and installed this and no new planets load.
  13. Yeah I did delete the old folder. Or so I thought. I found my log file how do I link it or post it? - - - Updated - - - YEAH! Fixed it! You was right there was duplicate. But not from a old file. Some reason a duplicate copy of your mod was hidden in another mods folder. No idea how it got there but I deleted it and its fixed it.
  14. For some reason the mod has broken the game. I cant collect any science. Which is odd as it was working last week. What info do you need to fix this? How do I do a log thingy? - - - Updated - - - The file at fault seems to be the ScienceDefs file. Remove that and the science buttons appear. So what is the ScienceDefs file conflicting with. Any incompatible mods?
  15. It is definitely not the game. The freezing is happening outside the game now so its not squads issue. Im not getting any errors in the log.
  16. As I find KSP bland without B9, Novapunch,KW and extra planet mods I have had to switch to the linux version. And thats come with problems of its own as Linux does not like my Graphics card...... Im disapointed with Squad. This is 2015. 32-bit is stone age tec.
  17. Ok seeing as KSP is staying in the stone age with 32x windows I have moved to linux for 64x bit gameplay for my modding needs as vanilla KSP is well dull. Without even adding mods yet the whole computer freezes. Sometimes I can play a hour other times 2 or 3 minutes. 18. Well seeing as the USAF has a big thing for black triangles I dont think we need to look to far to who owns them and what they are.
  19. There were test pilots. They knew the dangers. No one forced them to work for VG did they?
  20. Unfortunately the above poster is right. It does intertwine itself with space exploration a annoying way.
  21. And its attitudes like this I was scared off. It means slowing down and restricting any possible future progress. Its attitudes like this why the USA is having to hitch rides with the Russians. Sorry but accidents HAPPEN thats the nature of new technology. How many died in the early days of air travel? Being squeamish just holds back progress. No one held a gun to the pilots head and told them to fly for VG they worked for VG by choice! They fly a experimental aircraft know this could happen by choice! You dont become a test pilots cause you want a safe career! Yes its sad 1 died but they knew very well this could be the end result. Now seeing a they put there lifes at risk for the potential of technological progress to hold back or give up insults there sacrifices.
  22. They were revised not abandoned and that the point. Instead of just giving up and abandoning the project, wait till all the facts about what happened come out and see if revisions CAN be made.
  23. If NASA had that attitude there the Apollo program would have been cancelled before it made its first orbital flight. Teh soyuz would have been canned in the 70's and not become the reliable taxi to the ISS we have now. We dont even though the facts yet of what happened. The problem may very well have been fixable. Giving up just because of one big failure is a waste!
  24. Seeing as its only just happened a thorough investigation likely still pending!
