Noob experience level question

I have a pilot in career mode and have done everything up to and including planting a flag on the Mun and returning to Kerbin. It seems he's only level one (1 star and only has SAS prograde & retrograde). The log entries list: Orbit around Mun and Plant flag on Mun. It seems like he should be level 2 or maybe even level 3. My astronaut complex is level 2 if that matters. Am I wrong or missing something?

Level 2 requires a total of 8XP, so your pilot in question is 3XP shy of Level 2.

Landing on Mun and Minmus, then a quick jump out to interplanetary space and back will put your Kerbals to 3 stars.

I saw the wiki but was confused how the points add up. Thanks for confirming I'm where I should be. And thanks for the welcome.
