Completely Black Skybox

Change KSP2's Skybox to Pitch Black

  1. 1. KSP2 invites us into a new envirment with overhauled everything but one thing, the ugly old poopy skybox, Instead it should push to be a completely pitch black box like real space what would highlight the planets and your spacecraft in a dramatic and realistic way.

    • Old KSP1 Skybox (the original)
      19
    • Completely Pitch black sky with almost invisible stars poking through
      18
    • A choice between the two in settings

They should do a 3D skybox like Valve does with Portal 2 so that going long distances causes a visible parallax in distant but unreachable stars in the skybox, so that there isn't a disconnect between the interstellar bubble of kerbal expedition and the galaxy.

Might not be a good idea, considering that it has to render all that. Might contain a lotta lag.

It would just be one more 8Kish texture, if rendering that is what breaks your comp then you might want to upgrade by this point

Ideally not a static texture box at all but dynamically rendered. In KSP1, stars look noticeably bad and texture-like if you zoom in. Dynamically rendering would let you take into account things like local lighting conditions, how zoomed in you are, and other things. I'm not familiar with games like Universe Sandbox and so on, but there must be stuff out there that does similar things.

Parallex effects for nearby stars would be an optional, but nice feature (you'd probably never notice it unless looking specifically for it). Wouldn't be too expensive since you'd only rarely need to update the parallex calculations.
