1-Piece fairing?

Recommended Posts

Something that might be interesting & useful for niche builds would be if the "segments" setting for fairings could be set to 1, so it forms solid rings rather than half-/third-/quarter-/etc. rings, and the resulting fairing section(s) are just pushed directly away from the fairing base.

Such nosecone shrouds (used on ballistic rockets) are equipped with nasal solid fuel motors to push it forwards-sidewards, so they are not just fairings, but in sense of KSP they should be procedural SRB.

The other problem is "sidewards", to take it off course of the ascending rocket. It should procedurally calculate the proper angle of the thrust tilt, which depends on the payload length and the rocket T/W, which are both arbitrary. This is non-trivial.

Another option is to bring the shroud to orbit (like R-36 does), then pull the payload back out of the shroud with reverse motors.
But this is also too complicated for most of use(r)s.

So, unlikely.
