Excel sheet for calculations

Recommended Posts

Does anybody happen to have an Excel sheet with all the formulas for calculating things like DeltaV based on values you can enter in cells?

I'd like to make a list of my ships, with their DeltaV's etc but I don't know the formulas or how to properly make them.

Yes, I have one. I have calculations for rendez-vous, satellite deployment, delta-v, re-entry angle. But still it isn't finished. There will be a page for fuel consumption and parachutes some day. And more, I'm sure.

For formulas I would suggest to take a look at Wikipedia. The articles about Kepler's and Newton's laws are very useful. Mostly it breaks down to geometry.

Have fun. :)

Oh, and some problems are non-linear and can't be solved so easily. Just ask for help in case you might have found one.

You're calculating mixed-engine Isp incorrectly. It isn't thrust-weighted average of Isp, it's the reciprocal of the thrust-weighted average of the reciprocal Isp's. See http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Tutorial:Advanced_Rocket_Design#Multiple_engines, which used to be incorrect but is fixed now.

i made one with it all, but you should really make one yourself. that way you'll leran it all by heart and then be able to do the math with a calculator while playing

True, but I have no idea how to make the formulas

This is one thing that I think it's far more practical to just use a mod.

Well, this is more for a Rollplay-ish Mission log kind of perspective

Thanks for catching that ! I'm correcting it now.

Is the version is your sig the correct one now?

Making Excel spreadsheet formulas is pretty easy. For instance, All you would need to do, is take the formula and put it in the top box. (i.e "=D.V formula") and there you go. To get more complex its obviously more work but no less hard. Usually tedious at best. Play around in excel, once you learn basic things you can end up doing a lot for yourself, and it can be a lot of fun :)

Alternately, if it's the equations themselves that are giving you trouble, I'd highly recommend reading these three pages over at the Atomic Rockets website. They try to break things down into layman's terms and try to keep the actual math to something you could do with a handy pocket calculator (as long as it has an "Ln" button).

I've developed Excel tools for a few of my previous employers, so that's not the issue, the math is the issue as I don't fully understand some of the formulas with logaritms
