It's been over 3 days and a new riddle has not been posted. The thread rules state that the floor is now open. I hereby claim the floor.

I bring chaos into order, but I may stop at a border.

Those with hideous faces find I take them places.

From a field or from plastic, at what I do I'm fantastic,

But those in sport don't need me for it.

To some I'm friend but to others I'm foe,

And you'll find me most places you go.

What Am I?

A police baton?

I bring chaos into order, but I may stop at a border. - Language barrier hits me a bit: turns order into chaos or chaos into order?

Those with hideous faces find I take them places. - For me this is a hint of a double meaning.

From a field or from plastic, at what I do I'm fantastic, - So either made from a plant or plastic.

But those in sport don't need me for it. - Double-meaning-hint again.

To some I'm friend but to others I'm foe, - Who isnt?!

And you'll find me most places you go. - A common object then.

What Am I? - If I only knew!

I'm on mobile so I'll do my best to clarify:

- it helps bring order

- made from plant or plastic is correct

- Line 2 is probably the best hint. I thought my first draft of that line was too easy

- The verb for what it does is used in many sports, but the item itself is used in very few

- this common object has been in use for centuries or more

Edit: flowers is a good guess and fits fairly well, but is wrong

Heh, I read the first line completely the other way round, interpreting it as changing things from order into chaos.

A goal?

I apologize for the confusion. I may have been overly obtuse with this one, trying not to make it too easy. I have hints and another couplet in mind but I fear they may give it away. To expand on my last hint, I can only think of one real sport that uses this common household and workplace item to play, although the verb commonly associated with this item is used in some other sports.
