Recognizant has laid claim to the first recorded Ablate landing without mods or infinite fuel. Can any of you verify this? Achievement or not, Recognizant definitely has the skills and the smarts to make his streams part of your regular Twitch viewing. Some viewers dig his low key style, others dig the informative descriptions of each move he makes. Either way, he’s certainly worth your time.

why don't you guys highlight someone with real skills, who don't use mods like Cupcake etc.

They did, yesterday. I realise that's a long time ago, but they do do just that.

Also, how do you cheat in a single player sandbox game with no goals?

I saw someone do an Ablate landing a long time ago, it was a series of pictures. He had to first launch an asparagus'd nuclear tug to take a lander to ablate, but it failed the orbital capture burn (too low dv) and went in low orbit around the sun. Then he send a nuclear tug with a nuclear tug to the first ship and then got in orbit of ablate. Then he used the nuclear tug to escape ablate, and then he threw a third nuclear tug with an ion stage at the lander. Four hours of constant engine firing later and he was on a Kerbin intercept. I saw it on reddit, and it used no mods other than PlanetFactury. No, not even mechjeb.

EDIT:

Really!, Really!, ;;; Mods, mods, mods. I understand mods help with game development but, why don't you guys highlight someone with real skills, who don't use mods like Cupcake etc. Mods = Cheats

I'm surprised that noone has yelled at you yet. The thing about Kerbal Space Program is that it's a single player game, and as such you have NO right whatsoever to tell people whether they cheat or not. I use a ton of mods, not because it's easier than stock, but because it gives me a lot more variety to play around with. You might consider a mod like Kerbal Joint Reinforcement a cheat, while I consider it a necessity if you want to design rockets that look and act like real life rockets. You might consider NovaPunch a cheat, but when you have made an asparaguss-less stock lifter that can get more than a hundred tons into orbit like me, you'll get pretty damn pissed off by hearing someone say that you're cheating by using parts that are 5 meters in diameter. Trust me, "skills" in this game is much more than a question of whether one uses mods or not. Even if you used B9, it would still take as much skill to make something like cupcakes landers, or even to fly it.

Just don't tell me what to do in a single player game without objectives, thank you.

In a sense he's showing he has more skill than the elitist stock-only players: He used what the game gave him (albeit mechjeb) to get to a modded planet that is insanely harder than what is already there in the game. Also, how is FAR, DRE, and KER cheating? In some aspects, they create more of a challenge as well as eliminate others. I play with mods that allow me to build things that are nigh impossible with stock. ex: with B9, Pwing, and Klockheed Martian Space shuttle engines, I can create an accurate copy of the shuttle, or make something completely original. Just because you play with mods doesn't mean you have no skill or that you're a cheater (Look at Scott Manely: he is the most praised KSP player ever, and yet uses plenty of mods).

Might have been me, but I did use Mechjeb.

Recognizant was probably the first one to do it on video and without using ion engines though.

Yes, I watched that vid 3 or 4 times, and I was totally awed ! It was an aspiration . To me, it's playing the game in it's original parameters. The goal is doing it without any cheats (or mods) I'm not trying to tell anyone how to play the game, it's just how I want to play it! I'm not trying to agitate anything here, it's just my "opinion".
