Ode to the Jumbo-64...

Being that we have come into a new age of heavy lifters with the recent update, I feel that the era of the Jumbo-64 and the mainsail is coming to a close. Enjoy this silly poem.

Oh, Jumbo-64

How I used to cluster you in ridiculous numbers

By the Kerbin shore.

If only to have your mainsail be the part that fails

turning my missions into blunders.

But when you did not combust or detonate

You would prove that you were great.

Faithfully stampeding forth into the skies

Having that one Kerbal aboard that always cries;

"These missions fill me with dread,

For I feel some sinister player wants us dead.

Why else would he place our capsule here,

Clipping through an engine at the rear?"

Alas, the loads grew and grew

but the mighty 64 could but shove and shrew.

The Royal Mainsail, roaring as much as it could

To move those loads it knew it never would.

As our tastes and goals enlarged with each passing day

Squad would say "fear not! For new parts are on the way!"

And, grand day! The update is finally here!

Those new parts, asteroids, and gear

Give us plenty of ideas for the upcoming year.

New payloads, much larger than before.

Allowing our new plans and goals to soar.

And yet I cannot forget, that mighty 64

Along with its mainsail roar

Lying, Soon to be forgotten

By the Kerbin shore.

Ahem.

I've now decommissioned my old Heavy Lift rockets in favor of the SLS, which is less laggly, faster, more capable, and probably more cheaper.

Farewell ol'mainsail, you served me well.

The jumbo, on the other hand, is very useful with the 2M SLS engine. Very very useful.

I suppose that is true. It just seems that they won't be as wide spread as they used to be.

Decommissioning the Jumbo-64 and Mainsail? No way. I still use them for my heavy lift rockets, and that won't stop. As long as my payload is less than 70 tons, I prefer a good ol' Jumbo-64, with either clustered LV-T30/LV-T45, or just Mainsails.

Nice. I am pretty much a noob myself, but I know what you are talking about. That being said, I'm pretty sure Jumbo-64 tanks are coated with teflon or something, because nothing ever seems to want to stay attached to mine...On the other hand, the new S3 decouplers never seem to want to fire at the same time, leaving my old J64MS heavy lifters more reliable. Also, I have recently come to a better understanding of how bigger isn't always better. But when you take fps and lag into acount, yeah bigger helps.

I've almost never used them in the first place! Due to my: Addicted-to-Saturn-Vs-so-I-need-white-fuel-tanks I never really used it a lot. Though I LOVE it for Delta IVs. I am making that Jupiter rocket that got replaced by the SLS that I've already made but because of need-to-make-every-concept-vehicle-ever...

NEW AGE OF ORANGE TANKS!
