The Mk 2 Bicoupler allows fuel crossfeed from one "leg" to the other, much to my consternation.

How accurate is the KSP interstellar Alcubierre Drive?
Rakaydos replied to SpaceLaunchSystem's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The Earth centric model in kepler's day was becoming increasingly complicated to keep up with observations, as it had to model the known planets backtracking across the sky every so often. But the full complexity was a perfectly valid explanation- it's just that the kepler model gave all the same predictions significantly easier. Iccasionally you'll still see crackpots espousing the earth centric model, because if you throw enough complication into it, it can still be a valid interpretation- but the heliocentric model, Newton, and Relativity are simpler and provide precice results without fiddling with the models. If I understand correctly, Many Worlds is a simpler interpretation, just as heliocentricity was, but not to the same degree. Is that correct? -
A more intuitive tech tree

What about three starting "Tier 0" nodes, that cost significantly more than the tier 1 nodes? So you start with enough science to start with -EITHER- 1)basic Wings, Landing gear, basic jets, lateral intakes, jet fuel tank and the Mk 1 cockpit 2)Probe core, thermmoter, baromiter, antenna, probe tankage and the roccomax 48 3)Mk1 capsule, RT10, Lv30, parachute and small tankage. The tier 1 would then overlap significntly, letting probes and spaceplanes access the LV45, for instance. -
I think it's more a matter of "The goverment is making us use a barge at the beginning... what can we use a barge for later on?" and building the barge from the outset for still hypothetical advanced missions.

Not the WHOLE rocket... just the flyback stage. They land it, put 5 bucks in the tank, and it flys back to the launchpad

Term for the height of a craft from wheelbase to top of rudder
Rakaydos replied to HarvesteR's topic in Science & Spaceflight
LHO works, as long as the acronym is explained somewhere. If it's being used as a limit on Spaceplane Hanger tiers, it even make sence- you're limited on how big a craft you can get out the door. -
Here's a workaround: Grab the next stage below it, Stage 1. Drag it up so it's above stage 0. You can now access the former stage 0. When you are done editing, Drag it back above the new stage 0.

How accurate is the KSP interstellar Alcubierre Drive?
Rakaydos replied to SpaceLaunchSystem's topic in Science & Spaceflight
There are three schools of thought, of which "it's impossible" is just 1. "Many worlds" says you can change the past, and nothing that happened before you went back in time is certian- Dont try playing the stock market with tomorrows newspaper, you'll lose. The other school of thought, I dont remember the name but you can think of it as destiny. You can go back in time, just as you always have gone back in time. yo cannot change the past, and if you tried, you must have failed, or the past wouldnt have happened in the first place. For instance, lets imagine the first FTL explorers returned to earth... and found themselves in the mid 1900s. After a close call over Roswell, they decide against interfering with WW2/the cold war, and are forced to resort to cattle abduction to sustain their supplies. -
How accurate is the KSP interstellar Alcubierre Drive?
Rakaydos replied to SpaceLaunchSystem's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Relativity says time travel is possible, which says global causality is false. the Abercrombi Drive is just the most energy efficent method of doing so, as it doesnt require relativistically spinning black holes or other shenanagans. -
They didnt say it's going to be ISRU, they said you were going to be able to refuel your vessel on location. "Schedual Snack Run" Once the multiplayer framework is set up, you can request an "echo" of an earlier mission to be flown automatically every planetary conjunction. (limited to two body conjunctions, so no Moho resupply if you used an Eve slingshot) Once it reaches the "destination" you get a KAC style alert so you can handle refueling and deorbiting (or more missions, since it's there aready)

Single Stage to (at least) Minmus Landing... some assembily required. I used the Raipiers for orbital transfer because I had a mun slingshot to minmus that I couldnt wait 5 orbits to take advantage of, but theoretically the NERVA has the D/V to single stage to Laythe and back, if you slingshot tylo on the way out. Brings a NERVA in the cargo bay, redocks with it on a suborbital hop (or in orbit) and let the probe core take control. Belly RCS are rated for IKE landings even without the nerva. -

Besides, the problem with both caves and pits, is navigating the stairs in a spacesuit whenever you go in or out. -

Apparently FAR nerfs turbojets so they cap out at 1600m/s or so. -
How to make Dres more interesting?
Rakaydos replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Right now, the only hard part of Drez is gettig the encouter (small SoI) and slowing to orbital velocity (very little oberth bonus) Giving it a high spin means that you add getting a perfect inclination to the important tasks, and makes exploring higher inclinations best done by rover. -

Duna-thin Oxygen atmo, only in the canyons. With more canyons. Can you get up to orbit on turbojets if you can only accelerate in the canyon? lets find out! Bonus points for "puddle jumping" from one canyon to another! -

Nerva was carried in the topside cargo bay until leaving atmo, then quickly docked with the belly docking port before circularization. (or it can circularize on the less-efficent raipiers) After reaching 125x125 orbit it has about 2700m/s of space DV left. Also has 3+ minutes of Ike-rated RCS Vtol capability
